Hi all

My LO just turned 1 this week and is still sleeping in our room.  We had moved just before she was born and had huge problems with damp in her room and only just got them sorted.  She sleeps in her cot and goes to sleep independently.  If she wakes in the night she generally does settle herself although has been sick recently so at times need me to ssh-pat to get her back over. I am exhausted as I waken whenever she does even if I don't have to resettle her and just can't wait to have a full nights sleep although am sure I'll still be up at every sound but it might be harder to hear her from the other room!!

So my question is...how do I make transition as simple as possible? I had thought I would put her travel cot up and put her in there for naps during the day so she gets used to the different surroundings then start putting her down for bedtime too and then put her cot in the different room and go from there?  And if she has problems settling would it be better to sit beside her and use ssh-pat til she over and use gradual withdrawal?  I want to try and make it as smooth as possible and avoid any AP??

Any ideas would be very much appreciated!  Hard to believe she is 1 let alone that she is going to be in her own room!! I am looking forward to less disturbed sleep though!

Congrats on getting through the first year  ;D

Since your lo is now one you've graduated from this sleep board, I'll pop your post over to toddler sleep  ;)

i'm sure it will go smoothly since she is a good sleeper anyway.  we've never had any trouble with my LO moving rooms.  have you travelled at all with your LO?  mine will go to sleep in any room in any playpen as long as she has her loveys and her blankie.

try to keep everything else the same - routine, lovies, bedding, bed etc and treat her the same in her new room as you do now when she wakes up in the night.  no different attention so as to avoid AP.

i'm sure it will go well.

Thanks for replying!  Thats a good point about travelling...we've been away a few times and she was grand so long as we kept the routine the same.  We'll be doing same wind down and she'll have her lovies too so hopefully she'll not notice too much of a difference!  Hopefully the transition will go well.  Just want to make sure we avoid any AP!
