rolling on tummy face down...please advise!!
« on: June 03, 2009, 08:48:48 am »
Hi all

My 17 wk old LO has just started rolling over the last week.....now every time I go in her room to wake her she is on her tummy and face down into matress...im so terrified....my heart skips a beat everytime.....

as soon as I found her like this first time i had to stop swaddling her fully and just half swaddle under arms (tried without and she would not settle).....is this ok?

Ive even tried putting her in on tummy but she wont settle (thinkin at least I could control the position!)....she settles on her back or side but always rolls over at some point!.....

please advise...im so scared I cant sleep cos I have to keep checking on her...its horrible!

help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If u worry about it, you can place some rolled up towels on her side (tummy) so she cannot roll to her tummy. Iykwim?

It's happening with us too, but I was told that if they can roll on their tummy they will be fine that they have the strength to turn their heads. Ava does the same and I always touch her to make sure she is breathing  :-\ so I know how you feel. We have always used a sleep positioner and that has helped but now she moves so much that is ends up at the foot of the crib while she is at the top..... I know its scary but just so you know we are going thru it too.  Does she fall alseep on her stomache well? Ava is getting used to it, slowly.... she often wakes up on all fours rocking and crying not sure what to do next  :P but we areworking on it. Let me know if you figure anything out  ;)

Spencer actually never slept well on her back, so she's been on her tummy since 3 weeks old...I slept in her room at first and then got an Angelcare monitor (movement sensor) for a little peace of mind. She could lift her head and turn it side to side at that age though so that helped. Masyn was a back sleeper until 4 months, when she learned to roll over and then there wasn't much I could do about it (she still has a mind of her own!)

thanks for your posts!

yesterday was really hard...seriously thinking bout having naps in pushchair today just so i can get her to stay asleep without rolling!! :-\

how old is Ava?.....Jasmine does exactly the same pulls her self up on arms with head right in the air then gets in a paddy cos she dont know how she got there and wants to sleep so I have to come in and calm her down back to sleep!!.....last nite she kept waking like this and a few times I think she was actually still asleep!!.....its so awkward cos she is mantra crying trying to settle herself but after a while she wakes cos she is stuck and then I have to keep intervening to get her to sleep with shh pat.....im worried she will become dependant on it again!...just when I had got her sleeping without my help...its back to square one...again!! ::)

Ive got one of those monitors ( a tommee tippee one) but it keeps beeping and losing signal so I have to go without it most days now :(

please someone tell me its just a very short phase....or am i stuck with this problem forever!!!
