Extended Feeding Questions
« on: June 26, 2009, 23:12:57 pm »
2 quick questions:

1- My 10 week old is sleeping until about 5:30am (after an 11pm 'dream feed').  I nurse her when she wakes and put her back to sleep.  Should I then wake her up for her 7:30 routine feeding if she is still sleeping?

2- How do you plan for feedings every 3.5 hours with a 10 week old starting at 7:30 am?  The routine is then 11, 2:30, 6pm, so what do we do between 6 and 11pm?  9:30 is obviously too late, but 6 seems way too early to make it until 11pm.

1. Depends on what works with your schedule.  If you don't need to wake her, you don't have to.  If she regularly sleeps longer, there's nothing that says your day has to start at 7:30am.

2. If she sleeps later in the AM, that may shift your whole day later anyway, but even if you nursed at 6pm, you can still top her off right before bed.

It really boils down to when you want to 'start' your day. If you want to start at 7.30, then wake and feed at that time, working your EASY from that point. Lots of Mamas, myself included, did cluster feeds in the early evening to tank up babes so perhaps bring the feed forward a little (say 5pm and again at 7pm, bedtime for 7.30pm?). Watch out for the growth spurts where you'll need to be more flexible in terms of Eat, following your LO's cues; it can feel more like EAES for a while!

Not sure if this helps - I refer to this for ideas on what other Mamas have done when I get stuck for how to get it all to work. The sample routines are great because there isn't 1 strict answer for an age group; it's what Mamas have done to meet their babe's hunger cues and make their EASY workable. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=10384.0

If you haven't already joined, I'd really recommend joining your LO's age groups birthclub. They're really great for ideas as you're all facing similar age issues: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=103.0

Hope this helps

Hi Charlotte!!

Thanks so much for the reply! This eases my mind!!  She started a growth spurt last night actually and I have been doing the EAES...wasn't sure if this was okay, but seems good!!!
