YES i am back!!!!
« on: July 13, 2009, 03:54:48 am »
So for the last month DD2 has been sick with a cold so our naps have been crazy. While she has a cold i have the vapouriser on in her room she goes down for her nap no worries asleep within 5mins like normal but then has been waking up after 45mins to 1hr 15mins. 50% of the time i can get her back to sleep. She then gets over the cold and just as her naps go back to normal (2hrs 15mins average) her cold started again.
So last week she was starting to get better with her cold and her naps start to get back on track and then Thursday she only had 1hr 15min nap didn't get her back to sleep. Friday we were out so nap in the stroller.
Then Saturday she woke after 1hr from her nap i laid her down she would go quiet then 5mins later would cry out for DH or me (never done this) in the end DH had to do GW with her to get to go back to sleep which was only for another 30mins.
Then yesterday woke after 45mins laid her down went straight back to sleep for another 45mins nap (had a dirty nappy).
Then today very grumpy all morning put her down for her nap she woke after 30mins  :o laid her back down went back to sleep BUT woke after 20mins. She is now in her cot talking to her pooh bear.
I am so frustrated her nights are great she is doing 12+hrs at night especially since she is having such short naps. Before all this sickness she was sleeping 2-2.5hr naps i often had to wake her from her nap and still doing 11.5-12hr naps.
I am thinking this is SA, getting over sickness PLUS i think her 2yr old molars are on the move.
Am i missing something? This was our routine before this craziness:

7.30am - Get up (50% of the time i have to wake her otherwise she is lying quietly in her cot dosing)
12.15/30pm - Nap 2-2.5hrs
7pm - Get ready for bed asleep by 7.30pm.

She's 21 months or so?  there's 2 possibilities:

1) She's still a bit OT from recovering from illness and getting teeth in so needs a slightly earlier nap (or to sleep a big longer in the morning, and then have same nap time); or

2) she's ready for a bit longer A time and so is UT at nap.

There's no way to know for sure except to use your mommy instincts or to just experiment! I don't think the waking after 30 minutes is SA.  That's either UT/OT.  At our house, 30 minute naps were always UT.  But I know lots of people on here have 45 min UT naps.  So, based on your experience pick which scenario you think is more likely and adjust nap time accordingly!

Hi Natasha

Good to see you :D

Sorry you've been dealing with poorly little ones, not fun.  Nathaniel has started going down for his nap at around 1.30pm recently but of course he's a little older - prior to that he was going down at 1pm for what feels like forever!  I'd try moving her nap on a little bit and/or make sure she gets plenty of fresh air and exercise in the morning, this makes a huge difference to Nathaniel.

This is the scenario i was thinking as well Becky. Might try a slightly shorter awake time. She does however seem in alot better spirits this morning so we shall see.
Hey Kelly what is Nathaniel's awake time with that nap?

Excellent!  This age is a notorious teething nightmare!

So a 45min nap again didn't go back to sleep  >:( SO i think i need to try and extend awake time before her nap she isn't really showing any tired signs before nap so i think for the next few days will try 12.45pm naptime.
