STTN-now not napping right
« on: July 12, 2009, 23:50:55 pm »
My LO is 4.5 months old and we have started having some issues.
He has been sleeping through the night for 1 week and 1 day Woo Hoo!!
BUT, he now is having a hard time with his A time since we started on the 4hour EASY.
He will wake at 7 eat (a very small amount) stay up for only 1 hour then nap for 1 hour.
Today he has done this ALL Day Long!!
I know he can get in 2 hours of A time because he used to, now not so much.  He also used to be able to nap 1-2 hours at a time.

Any suggestions would be great!!  I don't think he is UT because he is rubbing his eyes and fussing. (he is an Angel baby who really does not cry-fussing is all I get)  He goes to sleep within 5 min. of getting into crib and does not jolt awake (so not thinking overstimulation)

I am just at a loss!!  Any thing you might think I am missing to look for would be great!

Thanks!!

At this age you want to be aiming for approx 2hrs awake and the reason your little one is having short naps is due to a short awake time. If he starts to get fussy at 1hr awake time then try a different activity or distracting him but walking around outside or around the house until her gets use to the longer awake time. Often at this age fussing after a short time after being awake often means they are bored. If you push a little longer you find they get a second wind.

Thank you so much!!
I just did not want to get to OT-we did that once and I no longer had an angel baby!!

But I think you are right because he has been awake for at least 2 hours of A time in the past

I will say though, it is very hard to keep him awake after 8 am.  Would it be ok to let him go down for an hour then, or should I keep pressing for 2 hours then too?

thanks again!!

extend that morning awake time slowly if you are worried do 10mins ever 3-4days and see how that goes rather than just jump straight to exactly 2hrs awake time. The first awake for most babies is usually the shortest anyway but i think you need to stretch your LO's awake time longer than 1hr.
