I started my DS on E.A.S.Y. when he was 4 weeks old. It took 3 weeks of shhpat to get him to be able to fall asleep on his own. Ever since then, he has been a wonderful sleeper. I do winddown, swaddle him, and put him in his crib. He makes fussy noises (not crying) for about 5-10 minutes and then falls asleep. He has done this from 2 months to 4 months with no problems.
Currently his schedule is wake up (between 7 and 7:30am), eat, up for 1 1/2 -2 hours, sleep for 2 hours. So he is on a 4 hour E.A.S.Y. He typically sleeps for 2 hours, never less than 1 1/2 hours. He sometimes wakes at the 45 minute mark, fusses for a minute or two and falls back to sleep. He takes 2 long naps during the day and then a 45 minute to an hour catnap in the evening. He usually takes the catnap in the swing, because he's really fussy in the evenings, even after being on a great routine during the day. He goes to bed between 7 and 8 depending on when the catnap ended.
Just in the last week and 1/2, we started having issues at bedtime. He cries and cries and cries. Usually I give him a few minutes, to see if he can settle himself, but now he can't. I thought that maybe his reflux was bothering him, so I started feeding him an hour before bedtime to see if that helped. It didn't.
Now, for the last 2 days, his naps have been horrible too. He's had issues falling asleep and then wakes at the 45 minute mark and doesn't go back to sleep. I have tried doing shhpat or a variation, but he will not go back to sleep. I don't know what to do and how things turned bad. I have been really good about sticking to the routine.
He has started rolling over, but doesn't when he is swaddled in his crib. Last night and today I tried leaving one of his arms out so he could suck. I figured if I had to teach him how to sleep again, he might as well figure out how to sleep without his arms swaddled so he could self sooth. I thought maybe it would help if he could have his fingers to sooth him. Now I am thinking I shouldn't have done that...
Please please help.
