missing nap....reward offered....urgent help needed ASAP!!!!
« on: August 28, 2009, 14:18:10 pm »
Hi all

I have had a tough couple of wks with LO illness and teething NW EW 1hr 15 min naps, separation anxiety....all at once!!

thought I got back more or less on track

....my problem now is she is refusing to sleep all afternoon since yesterday.... yesterday she was with nanny and grandad for a few hrs as mummy has swine flu...yes lucky me! ...they brought her back earlier than planned cos they had put her down for afternoon nap and she had slept for 15 mins then woke up and was just tossing and turning but not sleeping...they kept at it in dark room with hand on back etc and she was calm but would not give in to sleep...full stop!!

so I assumed maybe it was UT and didnt worry too much about the OT gremlin that I had all evening (she also refused catnap..numerous attempts!!) then today exactly the same with me...15 min nap was all she had and putting her down to that nap was a nightmare too as she was showing tired signs at 2hr 45 so took her up as normal and she went mad at me..refusing to sleep so I waited a bit longer took her out of room then 20 mins later she was looking sleepy again so back in and settled straight away...

then 15 mins later awake and crying for me ...went in and she was head up looking around looking wide awake and seemed pretty chilled so really tried so hard to get her back to sleep..even tried AP but no joy....

so anyway she is now what I would assume OT as she keeps yelling noises and whacking her feet on floor, and waving arms around....

I feel so ill and im struggling to cope with her today...

need help ASAP...We go on hols 2moro to cornwall ...its ok cos its a cottage so I wont come into contact with people till flu is gone!!

so today is the only chance I have to try and resolve this b4 I enter the holiday from hell!!

Your reward???...my sanity and the warm feeling that you get when you help someone in desperate need!!!!!

thankyou so much for reading!!!

If she keeps waking at the 15 minute mark, try staying in the room for the whole time after she falls asleep. Watch to see what happens. Is she jolting awake? In that case, try applying light pressure to keep her from jolting too hard.

Is she teething?

Try more A time in the morning and keeping the afternoon A time the same.

Annette - I agree with Stacy - extend back to that 3hr A time now and it should all settle again.

So sorry you are feeling poorly  :-\.

Have a wonderful holiday though  :-* :-*

thanks again ladies!

yeah I do think ive been giving her too short an A time before morning nap since shes been ill ive never really extended it back out again quick enough!

sorry I was very vague with details on last post as I was just so stressed!!!...she dropped catnap before she reached 6 months so has only been on 2 naps for a while now and had gotten upto near 3 hrs A time for most naps then with teething and Illness it reduced down again and now she is always rubbing her eyes throughout A time and frantically rubbing her eyes against everything at about 2 1/2 hrs 2 3/4....why is this??...i assume just tired so go to put her down for nap and then she fights it a little and then wakes at 20 mins???? ???

should I extend by keeping her calm and doing light activities like out in garden? Im now wondering whether even 3 hrs isnt enough cos yesterday I did 3 hrs and cos it went so wrong I cut down to 2 hr 45 today and it was so much worse...so maybe I should be aiming for 3 hrs 15?....so confused!!

today went from bad to worse...I ended up with the OT monster that wouldnt sleep at all....all afternoon after that 20 min nap so from about 2pm!!! I put her to bed early at 6 cos she was shattered and she couldnt keep awake while feeding... she woke 10 mins later and I had another hr of settling her...she was so angry!!!

I really need to get this straight in my head before the holiday!!

I keep thinking cos she is constantly showing tired signs of rubbing eyes (even after only an hr) that she is really tired by 2hr 45...but then when I take her up usually when shes ready she lets me know cos she burrows her head into my shoulder and cuddles into me!! she hasnt done that at all in the last few days so it could well be UT!!

Please if anyone reads this and gets chance to respond straight away please do cos you will make me eternally grateful!!...we are leaving to make the journey overnight so I will be goin bed at 10.30 till we leave at 1!!!!!

thankyou so much to you lovely ladies already helping me!

fingers crossed!

forgot to ask....

if she does wake at the 20 min mark and refuses to go back to sleep...how on earth do I get her to nap again... cos all attempts were failed today she just went into OT Monster mode!! any time frame that would be best ...does it have to be a whole A time again...maybe I was trying too soon??

I tried all the AP goin but she is so used to just sleeping in cot nothing else works even the booby didnt work so there is no hope!!

I wonder if it's eloped with my LO's naps??  LOL.  Sorry - can't be much help.

Good luck with both the sleep and the holiday ... and recovering from the swine flu.
