I'm having problems with my LO waking during the night. She's 13 weeks old and typically follows the routine below:
Wakes between 6.45am and 7.30am
E - between 7.00 and 7.30am
A - 8.00 - 8.45/9.00am
S - 8.45/9.00 - 9.30am approx
A - 9.30 - 11.00am
E - 11.00am
A - 11.45 - 12.00/12.15pm
S - `12.15 - between 2.00/3.00pm
E - 3.00pm
A - 3.45pm - 4.45/5.00pm
S - 4.45/5.00pm
A - Wind down down from 5.30 to 6.30pm
Starts bedtime routine at 6.30pm and feeds at 7.00pm. Usually down at the latest by 7.45pm
I have tried the dreamfeed several times but she's either too tired to take any milk or/and too tired to bring up her wind. She suffers with her wind so every time we have tried the DF she either wakes ups again and again because she's not taken enough milk on her DF or wakes with tummy ache and then wakes again about 4.30/5.00am.
Last night I tried the W2S but she still woke up at 12.30am (and has been doing on a regular basis). I managed to get her back to sleep with a dummy only for her to wake again at 1.50am. Again she eventually went back to sleep but then woke at 5.25am - this time I think hungry.
I'm guessing that her first wakings (12.30am etc.) are that she has had enough sleep to be able to stay awake when she comes into light sleep instead of going back into deep sleep and maybe that she's starting to get a bit of an empty tummy but not enough that she's desperate for a feed.
I sometimes struggle to get her to take all of her milk on her feeds so on a good day she'll take 6 oz per feed on a bad day i can be as little as 4 oz. I therefore know that she's not taking in enough calories to see her right through the night.
So, do I perservere with the DF even though it doesn't seem to have worked in the past? Or do I feed her when she first wakes approx 12.30am and kind of treat this as the dream feed and hope she doesn't wake again? Or do I get her back to sleep without feeding and try and make her hold out until the early hours in the morning i.e. 5.30am?
Your advice would be appreciated.
