Ever lasting GS or greedy baby??
« on: October 13, 2009, 18:44:30 pm »
Hi All,

Up until about a week ago my dd sttn normally 13hours from 6pm til 7am. Normally means most of the time unless she had a rubbish eating day and so would wake for a milk feed in the night, However about 6 days agi she started waking in the night for a feed. Then it went from once in that 13hour period to twice. For e.g. last night she woke at 2, took 7oz and again at 6.30 and took another 7oz. Then had anoth 3oz at 8 when she got up then ate her porridge and half a piece of toast!

I am thinking it must be a GS as i got her weighed yesterday after 5 days of this unbelievable eating, and she had only put on 4.5oz in 2 weeks and dropped off her growth line!!! Admittedly i do know she is growing as her clothes are fitting her better as too big previously, but how long will this last?

I will give you an example of how much she is eating per day. Yesterday over 24hrs she ate 3 good sized meals, actually at tea she had 2 bowls of food and a whole tub of fruit puree! Lunch was a bowl of food and nearlly a whole yoghurt and bfast was a big bowl of porridge and half a piece of toast. Then she had some snacks consisting of organic carrot crisp things and some steamed pear, also some juice and wait for it.....36oz of milk!!! She only weighs 16lb 8oz. Is 6.5mths and is not a big baby in the slightest.

Anyway, back to my NWs, i don't think she is waking from anything else other than hunger as she feeds, winds and is put straight back down awake and goes back to sleep, so she isn't feeding to sleep. She goes down indepently for naps and bed time, and as said previously used to do 13hours at night.

How long do these GS's last? Do i need to be doing anything to discourage the NW's? She normally without NW's takes about 16 - 18 oz of mik so this is a massive increase in her intake. She never took 36oz before solids!

All advice appreciated and sorry for the long post!

I am thinking growth spurt too, especially with her sleeping more during the day too.  Growing is tiring work.

Keep a log over the next few days, and keep us posted on how she is doing.

Hi Paula! Long time no speak!

Well she has slept a bit more again today, but her feeding seems to have calmed down a bit. She went down normal time tonight at 6, and woke for a few seconds as was a bit OT when she went to bed, but will keep fingers crossed she is over the GS. She seems alot calmer and not so ravenous. She has done quite well with her milk today, had 6 oz twice and 5.5oz and also ate 3 good meals so no reason why she should wake hungry!

Heres to hoping! :)

Well i think the GS if finally over!!! Yeahhh. She woke at 1030 for a little babble (due to OT bedtime) but apart from that i didn't hear from her until 7 this morning! So 13hours seems to be back again. Thank God! I always worry when things go pear shaped that she will never achieve the brilliant nights again, but she seems to manage to sort herself out.

She took 6oz milk this morning and has a hearty bfast of porridge, toast and yoghurt, so she is still eating plenty but as long as she sleeps she can eat as much as she wants lol.

Thanks for the support ladies, even though i feel i may have wasted your time a bit, if i had just waited another couple of nights i would have seen the GS disappear. Maybe i have a freaky baby with looooong GS's lol
