What do you guys do for teething NWs?
« on: October 14, 2009, 16:24:46 pm »
Hi All,
I *think* my DD is teething. She's 19 months old and had 2+ hour NWs a couple of times this week. She has STTN since 12 months old. I think Tylenol doesn't really affect her, so I just tried Motrin for the first time. I'm concerned it will upset her tummy though (it upsets mine) so I give it with some milk. I'm worried that she'll become dependant on this nighttime milk, but I guess I can deal with that when it comes to it.
I don't know, I'm so tired and confused. She wakes up and calls for mommy and I go lay her back down. Twenty minutes later, same thing. On and on for 2 hours. By the end she is so tired she is now crying and cries when I leave the room, but settles when I pick her up.
What's your routine? Do you give your LO pain meds and rock them for a while? Or put them back to bed... or.... ?
thanks!

Hi- I actually give the Motrin at bedtime- that way he's not getting milk in the night. Their little tummies are still pretty full after supper, so it's worked well for me.

I usually with go in for a NW- do a little quick comfort, GW as needed and sometimes a little rocking if he's truly uncomfortable.

This is really sucking. Last night she had an absolute fit when I put her in bed for the night and left the room.
I ended up staying with her until she fell asleep.
I give a little milk plus ibuprofen when she woke @ 2:45, but she was rolling around in bed for an hour. I couldn't leave, of course, or scream the house down. After rolling in bed for an hour, she was screaming for mommy up and promptly fell asleep on me. I put her in bed and she was up again at 5:30 screaming mommy up and she slept on me for another 45 minutes.
I don't want to leave her in pain, but I feel like I'm becoming a prop very quickly! Very tired & pregnant. Help!

Oh, big hugs honey- it's so hard when you are pg, tired, and they need you for comfort!
When they are hurting you just need to comfort in ways that you can cope with- AP can be undone once she's feeling better.
FWIW- any possibility of ear infection along with the teething? Poor little lamb-
You are doing all the right things to help her- hang in there.
