Naps and sleeping bag
« on: November 07, 2009, 05:03:54 am »
Well we have finally got our LO sleeping on a night using BW but during the day he is still not napping in his cot but will fall asleep on me or in the car/pram.  I am going to start next week trying to put him down in his cot but he can now turn over therefore do you think I should put him in his sleeping bag to go to sleep and do you think this will help him associate it with going to sleep.  Thanks

Yes, it can be a fantastic sleep cue.  Whether we were swaddling, or in the last few months using a sleep sack, as soon as I lie dd down, she gives a whimper, and her eyes start fluttering.
I was worried about the transition between the swaddle blanket and the sleep sack, but once she got used to having her arms free, the sleep sack became just as strong a cue.

We use a grobag with Hayden even now at 2 years old!  They are a fabulous sleep cue, I don't know that she'd fall asleep without it.  She was swaddled until she was 9 months old, and then we transitioned to the grobag for naps first and then night sleep.  In your case, if your DS sleeps at night in his grobag, and you want his naps in his cot, then the grobag is a GREAT way to tell him it's time to sleep!  Good luck!  :-*

Hey there,

Definitely put your lo in the sleeping bag, had same problem with my lo & although this didn't entirly solve our nap problems, it did help create sort of a routine.

Good luck..!

Yup, we use one as well for every nap and bedtime. I have a few, because he sometimes pees a lot and the diaper leaks, so I always have a clean one on hand. He totally associates it with sleep now, and it is much safer and warmer than covering him with a blanket. If you can sew, you can make one for around $5.00, rather than buy the lovely but expensive ones!
