Scared to swaddle for naps!
« on: November 10, 2009, 19:28:53 pm »
Hi there,
I'm writing on behalf of a mommy friend with a newborn, with no time to write herself.....ds is 7 weeks old, and has found his little fist - so although he's swaddled at night, she hasn't been swaddling for naps because she doesn't want to discourage the fist sucking (possibly she's worried she'd end up with a paci addicted baby like I had!) - but, ds is not napping so well, often falls asleep in the baby carrier or arms, awakes when is put down....
What are the opinions on this?  I know Tracy highly recommends the swaddle at this age, but does this discourage the self-soothing??
thanks.

Hi there, I would recommend swaddling with one arm out.
The tweaking never stops!

Sounds like a good plan.  I should've mentioned too, that ds can't even have paci yet due to sorting our breastfeeding.
