Growth spurt of habitual waking?
« on: November 19, 2009, 13:59:55 pm »
What do you guys think?  My LO is 14 weeks, but was 3 weeks early, so 11 weeks developmentally.  He had been STTN for almost 4 weeks.  All of a sudden last week he started NWing.  He goes to sleep around 7:30 and is up in the 12-1 hour and then in the 3-4 hour and then pretty much up for the day at 5:30/6.  The thing is, he seems really ravenous when he wakes - rooting at my face, sucking down 6 oz. in 15 minutes.  So we're feeding him, but I don't know if that's the right thing to do since he's pretty much waking at the same times each night.

I tried upping his intake during the day - from 5 oz. to 6 oz. at each feeding.  It didn't make a dent.  I stayed home for 3 days in a row to make sure he got in enough naps (he's also gone from a great napper to a 45 minute napper) - I've been extending them or putting him back to sleep for another 45 with almost each nap.

It doesn't matter if he has a great day at home all day or if he has a terrible EASY day out and about - every night for a week has looked the same.

What do you think?  I'm not sure what to do next.
Melinda

Hi there, it sounds like a growth spurt, there are a lot the first 3 - 4 months and then even beyond.   We had similar NW for feeds at around that age, usually around 1 and then again around 4 - 5. NW can mean various things though.

Could you please post up your EASY routine and we'll have a look.

Hi Wendy!
I posted me EASY over on the EASY board - but I'm pretty sure I've figured out that he needs more food - we've had good naps 2 days in a row and a very good night w/out NWs.  He's just eating so much more than I thought he could!

Thanks for your help!
Melinda
