Anna got to posting about the UK cheerios - I would have posted the same thing.

At 8mths, I was using weetabix and readybrek ( I mix in a few spoonfuls of the ready-bought fruit puree to make it different).

In the cupboard we have the standard weetabix, rice krispies, bran flakes then sometimes shreddies.  The boys love 'weetabix crunchy bran - trickier to come by but tasty, and ones they call 'wakey wakies'  made by Quaker.

Something too to look at - the non-kelloggs rice krispies/ bran flakes usually have less sugar in them.  check out the packets - I look at the per 100g bit as kelloggs usually muck it up by doing their calculations with the milk already added.  I don't buy the branded anymore.

Instant Hot Oat Cereal is the supermarket version of Readybrek and has the same ingredients but is much cheaper. It has no sugar in it, just oats and the added vitamins (which is why I use that rather than making my own porridge).  DS loves it :)

I sometimes give DS toast, eggy toast, etc instead of cereal sometimes for a change and make sure he has a drink of milk in the day to replace the milk he would have had in his cereal

Do you have Kix there?  Just got some today.  Only 3g sugar for a 30g serving.

... a little of anything (within reason) is fine - too much of anything is bad :o)

I also think all in moderation really - I mean if J has cheerios he might eat 15 of them and that is a teeny bit of sugar. His main breakfast is always some sort of toast.

Quite suprised how much there is in rice crispies as well - but I guess the same applies for J really. He LOVES having a bowl of them but then probably only gets 15 of them in after chasing them round with a spoon for ages  ::).

ds's fave is rice crispies and he likes weetabix too. im going to try him with porridge again this week as he wasnt keen last time. I think il also try the cereal medley too - he will love that. mashi, i agree, i dont mind ds having a bit more sugar if he is getting other vits and iron which are harder to get, it isnt every day!
