How Best Scramble Egg Yolk?
« on: January 05, 2010, 14:53:33 pm »
Started giving DS (7 months) hard boiled egg yolk yesterday - mashed it up with some banana and a bit of formula. No reaction and he ate most of it but didn't really love it (can't blame him). Wanting to try scrambled egg yolk instead - what is best way to cook? Can I microwave it in a mug (since my non stick pans are currently packed up and he hasn't had butter yet) along with a bit of formula? If so for how long?

TIA!

Yes it's easy to do in the microwave although I always find it comes out a bit more rubbery than when done in a saucepan.  Just trial and error on timings as depends on your microwave.  Oh, and get the mug in some cold soapy water straight afterwards as egg is a pain to get off!

I separated my yolks & whites, and put the yolks in a little bowl and then did it exactly as I would if it was an entire egg -- few drops of formula in instead of milk, mix it around, and pour into the frying pan. Takes hardly any time at all, and I always tried to keep it to one corner of the pan so that it didn't spread out too much and go bitty.  It seems weird doing one egg yolk, but in practise it is no different than doing 4 whole eggs!

Very true!  :P

Hi Karen, nice to see you around.

I see you are getting ready to move to your new house since your pans are all packed away...when?

We also did egg yolk and avocado, Ds loved that.

Take care,

Hi girl!!!

Hopefully moving in a little more than a month. Can't wait! DS needs his own room so badly!!!

Tried mashing the yolk with avocado this morning but DS was not impressed LOL. He loves avocado otherwise though.

Is it safe to use a bit of coconut oil (which is in his formula) if I make in the pan so it doesn't stick? I have some pans still out just not all.
