What's this all about? Standing while sleeping...

Recently my LO has been crying out for me during naps or in the night.  When I go in, he's standing.  I reasure him, cuddle his head, pat his back and then PD.  His eyes are closed before he hits the mattress and he's out cold.  What's up with that?  He's been walking since 10 months and his 12 months now.  He's always running around so lots of practice standing squating walking etc. 
Is there something going on or something I can do to prevent it or is just a stage?

We have a weird sleeper here.  DS will sit up in the middle of his nap say mamma then lay down and go back to sleep.  I have no idea if he actually wakes or is still asleep.

We have odd playacting type senario in the night too.  Sorry that's not much help and I don't know why he's doing it.  Just kinda wanted to say you're not alone really!

My LO does that.  I was in her room one night to get something and she was out cold and when I was heading back out she actually sat up and then stood and was still fast asleep.  Scared the life out of me.  She then woke all disorientated and cried.  I think when they are learning so many new skills they can't help but practise them in their sleep!  She still does it now occasionally but mostly its sitting up when sleeping and then gets all confused and she cries out.  Although had I not seen her doing it that time I'd be thinking she woke and then stood/sat but at least I know its mostly the other way round!

Alex does this too, it's like he sits/ stands in his sleep, then wakes & is all disorientated, so cries out, then as soon as I like him down he's out cold again. Bizarre.

I think their poor wee brains are just working  over time.  Dear help them..i can't imagine how I'd feel if I woke up standing in my bed!!

I have the same problem with my 18 month old.  She wakes up to 10 times every night and either sits or stands up in her cot crying.  As soon as my husband or I walk in the room she lies herself back down and is instantly asleep.  We don't need to say anything to her or touch her she just goes back to sleep as soon as she has seen us.  However if we don't go in her room she just continues to cry until we do.  Can anyone give us any advice on this?  Our 3 year old never had this problem so its new to us.  We are very tired!  Please help.  Thanks in advance.
