Not sure how to make the 2-1 switch.
« on: February 19, 2010, 19:46:51 pm »
Hello,

Well Ds is officially 14months old today!!!!  I can't believe it.  Our routine has been pretty good for the past few months and I hate to jump the gun but I have noticed a few things.  Last week there was a couple of bedtime resistance and it took DS just a  bit longer to fall asleep for his pm nap.  This morning was a EW around 540, thank gosh it was brief.  I was wondering if your experts could take a look and tell me how I go about making this switch.  Here is what our schedule looks like

Awake at 730
breakfast by 8
milk in sippy cup by 930
am nap 1030 (30 min only)
Awake at 11
lunch by noon
milk in sippy cup by 2
Pm nap 230 until 4 ( 1.5 hrs)
awake at 4
supper at 5
bedtime by 8.
sorry my computer is acting up.
thanks in adavnce

that is a lovely routine - I am jealous! :)
What we did was shorten the am nap to 20 mins which will move the pm nap forward a little. My DS started with a 3 hour A time after a 20 min am nap and then went to 3.15 around 15 months and is now kicking up a fuss again so looks like he needs longer.
Good luck

That's what i was thinking, but i was't sure that 10 minutes would make a difference.  Will just have to see what happens.  Do you think that i should wait a little bit before shortening it.  The things that I mentioned above happened all in the same two weeks, not sure if it is just a coincidence or he actually needs the nap shortened.  He goes down well for both naps and needs to be woken from both. I could add that earlier, the computer was acting up.

10 mins can make a big difference - it did for us anyway.
I would only advise changing your routine that you have now if there are repeated EW's and he is not going back to sleep or you get nap refusals and/or short naps.

ok now I am really confused.  Monday DS did the usual am nap of 30 min, pm nap of 1.5 , but resisted bedtime.  usually in bed by 745-8, that night 845.  Tues we had a dr appt tht was two hours away.  I figured he would sleep in the car on the way there but he didn't.  S o he was up from 730 until shortly after 1230 and was happy.  I was shocked.  Once we got in the car he was asleep and slept the whole way home.  SO about two hours. So up at 230 and then went to bed at 740!!!!  He slept through until this morning, heard him at 7am, must have feel back asleep cause he was quiet until 730.  Then today only slept 15 mins around 11ish.  My mom tried to but him to sleep at 120 and took him almost half an hour to fall asleep.  He slept for two hours.  Up by 4, bedtime 8, put up a little bit of struggle, not much.  Sooooo, I am wondering  is this just a fluke?  How could he have such leaps in his A times?  Is this recipe for an OT baby in 1-2 days.  My mom and DH are saying just go with it and the baby will tell us when he is tired and he is getting older.  I am just wondering do I just go with it or try to get back to the original routine I had posted?

Sorry for the looooong post!

It could be that 30 mins is too long now so I would shorten the am to 20 if you can and try and keep the pm. That is what I would do. You may find that he still fights either one or both naps and if that is the case then yes give one nap a try and see how you get on x
