7 Month Old Night Wakings
« on: February 24, 2010, 14:47:16 pm »
Hello,
My son just turned 7 months and for the past few weeks will wake throughout the night. Sometimes 2-3 times and sometimes 1 a night for about an hour. Before that he slept soundly, but he was swaddled. For the few weeks after we weaned the swaddle he did great sleeping though and now he is up a lot. He doesn't really cry out. He just makes noise and we go and give him his pacifier. He is usually at the other end of the crib on his belly. Sometimes we go in a few times to give it back to him before he falls asleep. He is up anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour+. He just got a tooth and I think that another one is coming. Here is his schedule.

6:30-7 AM awake and bottle
8 AM solids
10 AM nap for 1.5 hours
11:30 AM bottle
12:30 PM solids
2:30 nap for 1.5 hours (sometimes one of these naps is about 1:15 minutes)
4 PM bottle
6 PM solids
7 PM bottle and bed
12:30 solids

HI there, it sounds like there is another tooth or teeth coming through.  I assume that the solids after bedtime is a typo?  Do you think the paci is a prop?  If he can't replug himself and you are doing it for him...

What about pain meds for the teething?

Yes, it was a typo. No solids in the middle of the night:)

I guess the pacifier could be a prop. He would probably fall asleep if we didn't go in and give it to him. We just do in hopes that he will fall asleep quicker:) I can try some Motrin before bed and see what happens. If he isn't crying at night should we just not go in and see what he does??

Hi there, yes at this age it's best to leave them to settle as much as possible.  By now you know the mantra vs. 'I truly need you' cry.  I would consider weaning the paci or helping him to learn to replug himself...otherwise it is a prop.

What we normally do with the pain meds is to DF them around 10 so that they have the longest lasting effect.
