how to fit in A time for 3.5 routine
« on: April 04, 2010, 09:06:11 am »
I am planning to move to a 3.5 routine for my 8 weeks dd as she is not interested in her feed at 3 hrs interval.
She would have 5 or 10 mins max on the breast for one feed and very hungry on the next, or worse, won't nap well when she takes so little and have to be fed half way down her nap and this mess up the routine.
However, her A time is not ready to be extended, she can go 1hr30 max without being OT but usually it is only 1hr b4 she shows signs of sleepiness.

Can anyone give me any suggestion on how to tweak the routine?

I must say it is very unusual for a BF babe to want to move to 3.5hrly feeds at such a young age - we tend to hear of this with big FF babies really.

I can't help but wonder if there is any other reason for disinterest in the feeds - does your LO suffer with wind or reflux at all?

If you do have to feed 3.5hrly then your only option would be to move away from the EAS pattern for a while and do an EASAEAS pattern. When you do get a nap/ feed clash you will need to feed a bit early and ensure they don't fall asleep - then do winddownand off to nap.

If at all possible I would try and stick to the 3hrly routine, but certainly make sure there is no other issue before stretching the feeds out.
