combining cluster feeds
« on: March 18, 2010, 21:39:48 pm »
I'm confused about this and I started EASY with my first kids at 10 weeks. So...can you explain to me how to combine the cluster feeds in the evening? Right now he eats at 3 then again at 5:30 and then 7:30 and a DF at 10:30. And he's HUNGRY for that 5:30 feeding...

Thanks!

ETA: He's 7 weeks and weighs 13 lbs.

He's BF but he does get a bottle at the 5:30/6 feeding and his DF. He usually takes between 3-6 oz for those two feedings (I know, big range!).

Okay! :) Wasn't sure where to put it since he's a combo.

How are the nights going? If your feeding routine is working for you at the moment I would leave it as it is to be honest. I know Tracy suggests combining the clausters by about 8 weeks, but BF babies do sometimes need to continue them for a while longer. I would be guided by him, if you start finding he isn't so hungry for that 5.30 feed then stretch him a bit, or you may need to adjust your feeds a bit so the 5.30 is a bit earlier so you get 3 hours between bedtime and the feed before (or what ever his normal feed interval is).

Night times are pretty good...except last night, but we're hoping that's a fluke! His DF has been low lately but we're hoping to tweak that.

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense that he'd take a bit longer since he's mosltly BF.
