14 months moving to 1 nap???
« on: April 06, 2010, 01:52:38 am »
I'm not sure how to handle DD moving to 1 nap, she is 14 months now and has been on the same schedule for awhile, she does STTN normally from 7 or 730pm till 630am but naps are getting messy now.

My major issue is that my sister watched her 3x a week and due to school pickup and drop off can only have have do an afternoon nap between 100pm--315pm so it makes it really hard to move to 1 nap before school is out.
So do you think its better to stick with 2 naps and risk only having the morning (she's been refusing the afternoon) or just move to one nap from 100pm--300pm? I tried a couple times to do one nap at 100pm and she only slept 45 min :(

Her current schedule is below....

Wake 630am
Nap #1-- 1000am--1100am (I put her in the crib at 945am and wake her at 11am)
Nap #2---200pm---300pm (she has to be up no later then 315pm, this is the nap she normally fits or skips)
Bed--700pm (630pm if she has a short afternoon nap or she skips her PM nap)

I think it will be a while before your LO can manage a 1pm nap after a 6.30am wake-up. My DS is 19 mths and couldn't do that yet - and he transitioned to 1 nap at 12 mths. She will just be far too OT by then as it is 6.5hrs A time.

First thing I would do is cut that morning nap down to 30 mins CN only and see if she will take the afternoon nap again (most LO's will then  :)). That might even bring the nap back to 1.30pm ish as well for you.

Then as she gets closer to the transition you can do a 1 nap day when your sister doesn't have her, and a 20 min CN to get her to the 1pm nap on the days she does.

I agree -- I'd shorten AM nap and try to get a longer PM out of her.  She's going to take a while to get to 6.5 hours of A time!

OTOH, she's sleeping thru the night still!! So, in some ways this is working just fine!  Perhaps you could try the shorty AM nap on your days with her and see how that goes.

thanks, yesterday she woek around 630am (maybe alittle earlier) and I put her down at 930am, she went right to sleep and I woke her after 45 min. I put her back down at 200pm, it took her about 5-10 min to fall asleep but she really only slept for 45 min :(

Should I cut the morning nap even shorter and then do like a 1pm afternoon nap??? I like to put her down for the night between 7 and 730pm

I think PM nap was too late and she was OT.  Since she only had 45 min sleep in her, i probably would have gone with a 1:15 or 1:30 nap.  We usually suggest 3-3.5 hours between naps when you do a shorty like that.
