Time to addd a second solid meal?
« on: April 14, 2010, 00:10:11 am »
My lo is 4.5 months and we had to start rice cereal early because he stopped sleeping through the night, because he was waking up 3-4 times, starving and drinking 30-36oz of formula a day. Even with the cereal, it hasn't really decreased the amount of formula he is taking, still about 30-32oz. We started about a week ago, and he is doing very well. I notice a huge difference in him sleeping well, even just adding 2 tbs. of cereal into his diet.

At what point is it ok to add a second "meal" in? Do you think that would help to get rid of another bottle at night? He is eating the cereal at a pudding consistancy. He is also on the 4 hour EASY, and reflux is part of the equation.

What point is it generally advised to move to other foods? His pead said any time now, but it just seems so early.

we started solids early (with paediatrician approval) and added a second meal after a couple of weeks.  we went to puree fruit and veg with the third meal but first added more cereals ...

sounds like you are doing a great job!
