2-1 at 7 Months!?!
« on: April 18, 2010, 19:21:05 pm »
Has anyone had their LOs transition to one nap very early?  I searched through some of the stickies and FAQs but could not find anything.  My LO just turned 7 months a few days ago.  For the last 3 days he has been going down for his first nap after an A time of 3hr 20min.  Then he naps for 2hr 30min.  I wake him up because I get worried about fitting in a second nap.  I have been giving him just a CN in the afternoon.  Yesterday he even did an A time of 4hr before bed (we were out for a BBQ), with no NWs or EW.  Today I thought I would just let him sleep and see how long the nap goes for and we are at the 3hr mark (still asleep).
Any thoughts?
BTW he transitioned to 2 naps at 6 months (only one month ago!) with 2 x 2hr naps, and we have been steadily increasing his A times since then because his naps would keep getting shorter.

hi there :)  your situation sounds very similar to ours.  My LO just turned 7 months a few days ago, does 3h20 for 1st and 2nd A time, and takes a 2h15 and 45 min nap (of which I usually wake him).  However, we tend to get NWs and EWs if we go much beyond his A so we are holding steady with what we have for the moment.

I would say if he can handle 4 hr A to perhaps try it for a few days and see if any NWs pop up.  However I would think there may be a possibility of OT building up, and might manifest itself at some point.  But I guess it couldn't hurt to try??

I am already looking forward to the day of 1 nap - life will be such bliss  :D

Nice to hear that someone else is going through this so young!  I tried looking through the Sample EASY's but could not really find one with a very long first nap, and a CN.  What do you do for the last A time?  I find that if that last A time is too low (e.g. less than 3hr15m) I get an early wake.  Even when he has the shortened second nap.
So today, after the 3hr nap, the second A time was only 2hr 40m so I could get in a nap and enough of an A time before bedtime!  (It is nice to have an LO that you put them in bed and they fall asleep no matter what the A time is.)
We will see how the next few days go and I might have to jump on the 2-1 transition thread!

It seems that my LO might be preferring a shorter last A - we are experimenting with this one because we have been getting EWs and he might be OT from a long last A.  But it sounds like your case is the opposite!

I would just play it by ear and if you don't get any NWs and EWs, you might be onto the start of the transition.

Keep me posted!
