a few more cat nap questions
« on: April 20, 2010, 22:17:49 pm »
My LO is 3 months old and we follow a 3 hour EASY. I have 3 questions about cat naps:

1) At what age do we drop the cat nap?

2) She goes down well during her 3 naps during the day but has a much harder time for the CN. Is that supposed to be the case or should putting her down for a CN be as easy as the other naps?

3) She sometimes takes so long to put down for the CN that it is time for her next cluster feed before the 45 minute nap is over. Should I wake her or let her finish her nap?

Thanks,

Hi! Trying to answer from my experience - the CN was the hardest for us as well, but it seemed as if our baby-girl NEEDS it.
1. Supposed to drop the CN around 6 months, i waited for her to refuse it for several days in a row and then stopped offering it and it was dropped.
2. It was the hardest for me as well, but i insisted until several days in a row (i think over a week)
3. I would try as long as it's CN time - then i would exit the room - then re-enter it saying something like "i know you didn't sleep well, let's go to eat/play etc", just to emphasize that i did not give up because she's crying (so she won't start from the crying next time) but i gave up because it is time. This really helped.

Thanks for the reply.

Another question I have is regarding the A time before the cat nap. Should it be the same as other naps? Shorter? Longer? Tonight I put her down 1 hour after waking from her 3rd nap (thus 1 hour A time) and she went down much faster for the CN. Was that just a lucky break or would it make sense to do that since LOs get more and more tired as the day progresses? Her A time is usually around 1.5 hours.

I think that you should try the same again (our A time before the CN was shorter) and if it works for several days keep it.
Don't let setbacks discourage you.
