Snacking
« on: May 10, 2010, 06:43:14 am »
I just started the EASY routine a few days ago with my 7 month old DS. I never imagined that such minor changes could have such a large effect. Before, my DS wasn't sleeping until 11 and then would wake every 2-3 hours for feeding. In the day he would take about 3 short catnaps. Since implementing, EASY, he's been going to sleep at 9 waking up only TWICE until 9 the next morning. One issue that still remains, however, is my DS is a snacker. I still BF and he eats solids twice a day. When I BF, he will only eat for about 5-10 min then gets distracted and pulls away. The result being that he is hungry again in half hours time. I've tried feeding in quiet, calm areas to no success. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I found most success from feeding in the very dark, quiet nursery immediately after a nap.

Are you sure it's hunger?

If you've started giving him solids he may very well be getting thirsty & needs to drink water, so that maybe something to try & see.

I think its hunger because he gets fussy and reaches for the breast. When he does eat, it's normally not longer than 5-10 minutes, so maybe he isn't filling up fully before getting distracted? I'm on the 4 hour EASY, but sometimes I end up feeding him more than once before the next E time. The dark nursery works sometimes, but he always seems to find something to play with, including my hair. :) I haven't tried water. I wasn't aware that plain water was necessary this early on, but I will try it and see if it helps at all. Thanks for the advices.
