I think we're entering 2:1 territory- advice plse?
« on: May 09, 2010, 18:45:06 pm »
In the last week or so it seems like we're starting to head towards 1 nap. Not there yet, but I could do with avice/help/reassurance re the transition.

Prior to this week DS was waking at anytime after 5.30am (I know!), then taking an hour or so nap at 9am. Then at 1-1.30 he'd have anything between 1-2 hours before bed at 7-7.15.

now in this last week he's been waking later, 6-6.30. Still going down at 9 for an hour but then a nightmare to get a second nap.

So. I'm thinking about cutting his am nap to half an hour, so 9-9.30ish. then hopefully he'll be OK to take a better nap in the afternoon. does this sound OK? Not helped by the fact that he's teething on and off, numbers 7 and 8 are on their way I think.

Any experience or advice? he's 11mths old by the way.

I'd be inclined to try a 45 min nap before cutting all the way down to 30 mins.  He's still pretty young for the 2-1 (although you're right that it can start this young) so you don't want to be cutting sleep too quickly.

Could you also post your EASY, though?  Looking at how long his day is, I would want to rule out OT before you go cutting his sleep - you should be aiming for a 12h day/12h night, so if he wakes at 5.30 he should be in bed no later than 6pm.

Thanks,

Clazzat, he's never done a 12 hour night! 11 is the best we can get out of him, 7ish till 6ish. This morning he was up at 5(!!!!) and would not go back to sleep no matter what.

6pm bedtime is just no do-able either, as I have an older child who goes to bed at 7 so to get him to bed at 6 only to have him woken up by his big brother coming up for bath and bedtime- just not practical in our house.

So, his routine:

5/6/whatever time he decides to wake
6-6.30 bottle
7.45 breakfast
9am nap, for around an hour
12 lunch
1.30 nap for at least an hour, ideally 1.5. Recently this has dropped and I've had a 45min guy on my hands.
5pm dinner
6.45 bathtime
7pm bottle and bed

Just these last few days he seems all over the place, daytime sleep has dropped so much. Thankfully he's still sleeping through at night, even if we do have an early start.
