switch naps?
« on: June 02, 2010, 00:54:33 am »
Okay so we have finally gotten back on track with sttn after about 2 months of battling an ear infection.  But now we are having problems with bed time.  WE are 11 months old and I am wondering if anyone would think it might work better to switch naps?  Right now we do a long morning and a short p.m.  And then we spend 20minutes to an hour fighting bed time. :( Here is our schedule now.  Let me know if you think it might work to switch them.

Awake: anytime between 6 and 7:30
N: 10:30 the latest
awake:anytime between 11:45/12 (I wake her up usually)
N: sometime between 3:15 and 3:30
awake 4:30 the latest
Bedtime between 7 and 7:30 (that's what I aim for but tonight it took till 8 oclock with her screaming her head off)

I am almost getting the feeling that I might need to switch the naps which I think would be more problematic for me at this point then her because on Sundays when we go to church she usually naps for 3 minutes in church comes home has lunch then goes down around 1:30/2 sleeps and sleeps till 4.  But I dunno if there is a difference and how long her A time should be after a 30  minute nap. :( I need help :(

You can do either way but with resisting bedtime, I'd cut one of them shorter and hope the other elongates a tad to make up for the cut time. If you think letting her sleep longer in the morning won't produce resistance for a catnap in the afternoon, you can let her nap longer in the morning and a bit shorter in the pm and then she shouldn't resist bedtime.

If you think she'd resist the second b/c of sleeping too long in the am, then you can DEF. do a short morning and longer pm. (Either way one nap should be around 1.5/2 hours and the other around 45-60 mins (which you cut slooooowly until you switch to one nap altogether)

She is starting to resists the second nap.  This really frustrates me because I have cut her naps and still we scream before bed for sometimes up to an hour an a half with us in the room! Last night everytime she fell asleep and I left I would shut the door and she would be up  screaming.  I'm gonna make the jump and do short am and long p.m.  Only problem now is if a.m. is 30 minutes long how long is the A time in between the first nap and the second nap?

I can't remember exactly the times we did but I think we aimed for about 2.5 to 3 hours after a 30 min. nap. It's sort of trial and error b/c you're not sure how much they can handle without being OT. She is doing a tad over 3 between her usual naps, so I'd think maybe 2.25 to 2.5 ish after a short nap. So if she does 10-10:30 then maybe a nap around 12:45/1ish??
