Hi mukta,
1. Should he not expect a feed in the middle of the night as we try and cluster feed or is it expected. We exclusively BF
I didn't cluster feed but I think he will have a couple of night feeds at this age. Do you dreamfeed?
2. He tends to be very gassy in the night and moans and groans a long time say 1 hr before he poops...only in the night so his night sleep is not awesome, any ideas
Oh. Gas. SO hard when they're young! their faces scrunch up and it takes them so long to go...oh my.
In hindsight, I think some of my daughter's gas could have been due to my diet. Do you have any dairy? Or gassy veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, squash etc?
3. He tends to wake up for poops, in that case how do I follow EASY? as sleep gets broken.
TBH, 6 weeks is still very young to have any structural routine. He's so tiny still and getting adjusted to the world. I think what you're doing with the Eating followed by an activity followed by sleeping is most important for him to get used to. Soon, as he gets older and realizes that there's a pattern going on you'll be able to implement EASY better.
Often times, EASY is more like EASAE or EASAS. Can you change him and then shush/pat him back to sleep?
4. We tend to get 1-1.5 hrs as A time and the routine tends to vary from 2.5-3hr EASY, is that ok that its not always exactly consistent?
Yes
5. He falls asleep on his own sometimes and other times is rocked etc. is that ok or should I always only let him fall asleep alone - pat shh etc?
I think it's great that he falls asleep on his own. I would imagine it won't be too hard to sleep train him later on as he gets older. Enjoy this time with him
Their memories get better as they get older...so I didn't feel too guilty APOPing in those early weeks. However, if you want you could rock until he gets drowsy and then put him down to fall asleep on his own?
6. Lasty should I focus on a times routine first or independent sleep? Or both together?
IMO, I find that proper A times will help with them falling asleep. I feel so awful making my daughter sleep when she was younger, when, I realized, she wasn't tired and would cry. If you know his proper A times, he should fall asleep (if not OT or OS) with a bit of help frm you. What do you think?
We went through hell with DS and he only now has started sleeping through the night so this time round I am trying to be extra careful hence the crazy questions...
Not crazy at all. I'm a bit rubbish with the early weeks of EASY ..she was a textbook girl until 2 months and then we got hit hard with the reflux monster so things with her a bit tough with sleep training.
HTH!
