How to get a 8 month old started into EASY routine
« on: June 10, 2010, 11:35:15 am »
Hi

I have just discovered the Baby whisperer, still quite new. I am very confused about how to initiate my 8 month old into this routine. At the moment he has a very haphazard routine and we have been travelling so it hasn't helped.

I am trying to wean him off the breastfeeding and have introduced two bottle feeds. Presently he had 2-3 naps of 45-60min. At night he goes to bed at 7.30 -8 but keep getting up every two hours, sometimes will do a stretch a of four hours but no more. Also big problem is that he wants to be fed every time he wakes. Sleep deprivation is getting to me.

So please could you advice on how do I start, because so far what I have read it talks starting EASY at 3-4 months.

Many thanks for all the advice.

Hi CBAJWA

First up have you got a copy of Tracy's books? They can be very handy to have around.

Second, have a look at these sample routines for your age group here http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=164253.0

The first thing I would do is take 3 days out to observe his day. Write everything down in and EAS format with any notes that seem relevant.

Then post what is an average say up on the boards and we can take it from there.

Are you doing any accidental parenting (AP) such as rocking to sleep, feeding to sleep or have any other sleep props? That's a separate issue.

Here is a link on teaching sleep to older bubs http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=85498.0

Have you developed good wind down rituals? See her for more info http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64277.0

Are you familiar with shh/pat and pupd as settling techniques? see here for more info http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64275.0

Have a read through, get the books if you can, keep a log - then come back here if there are any questions or doubts and, well, best way to start is to jump in and start! We are here for you
