here we go again :)
« on: June 22, 2010, 05:20:02 am »
Hi :)

We ve been on the 3 bottle schedule for sometime and its been working well :) until recently.... she is back to refusing the bottle - the 3 of them- all together!

so she wakes up - after almost 12 hrs of sleep- I offer bottle... all she takes is 1 oz!!! I give her a chance after half an hour, and that usually did work for she took at least another 3 oz, now she totally refuses it.

here is how it goes:

wake up 7 :00
bottle - I try at 7:10 (1oz) again at 7:40 ... no luck
breakfast 8:00 - (I try to add formula here)

wake from first nap
around 12 pm- lunch
bottle before second nap around 2:30 - we are only getting 1 or 2 oz here also... this was a full bottle of 5 to 6 oz.

5/530 diner
7/730 bottle ... 1 oz!!! again...

thank God she loves her solids...

My MIL said that all of her children refused the bottle at 6 months and she had stopped the milk then!!!!!...
and as you may remember, i have tried to up teats, and teething gel before- she is not teething tho this time-ets

maybe i should start switching solids and bottle?... my lo is 9.5 months.

thanks for your valuable advice

I ve tried sippy cups, with water, for a while but she doesnt seem into them... she takes water from the bottle very easily.... she loves to chew/drink from plastic cups...but i think she ll just spill it all over...
maybe i should try a sippy again... I tried the hard tips and the silicon tips...do you recommend any specific tip thats easy for her take?

When you say this happened before what was the cause?

DS always refused bottles when he was teething but it was always short lived. Just a thought.  :)

Hi Emma, yeah good point this always happened when lo was teething... I dont feel she is teething now tho, for usually there is also a LOT of drooling involved and NWs of pain...i m not sure.
it was never as bad also... lo was never high on milk needs, even on breast she was very fussy...
I feel that she is the type that just dont like milk! :) I ve changed from similac to bebelac once, but it didnt make any difference... maybe i should try a different brand again...
maybe its just a phase ( quite long though) again...
I ll try teething gel anyway today...

thank you ladies for your thoughts

Perhaps its just movement underneath the gums? I was always duped into thinking DS was ready to drop bottles or hated his formula and evrey time it was always teeth! I personally wouldn't go changing formula again if its not causing any digestive upset.

Def try the gel and perhaps some Calpol too?  :)

It should tell you on the bottle how much to give and yes I would give it about 20/30 mins before a feed and see if it makes a difference.  :)

Ok so, last night I have to admit I chickened out and couldn't give her calpol for I thought I did nt want to give meds for no reason beside pain.
But ended up with 1oz feed again. This morning I gave her gel, it seemed like it helped but she ended up taking 3.5oz within an hour interval.
She had a runny noise during the day, obviously teething... So I gave her gel abd calpol before her 2nd bottle, it didn't help and actually got her very sleepy...
Sorry I hate being a pain when help is offered to me but lo gets really difficult with her bottles when teething.
At least I'm sure its the teething again! Maybe I shud just ride it out like everytime? Thks for ur thoughts

(((((hugs))))))

There's not much more you can do other than medicate and ride it out. It will pass and she will make up for it when she feels better.  :-*
