bottle to straw or sippy
« on: June 25, 2010, 10:38:35 am »
my 11 month old is on a good feeding and sleep routine. She has 3 bottles a day and 3 meals a day with some snacks. This is her routine

6.45am wake, 7.00am bottle 200ml, leave about 20 ml, i use it in her cereal later
8.30am breakfast
11.45am lunch
1.45pm bottle drinks about 150ml used to be 200ml but will not drink more now
4.30-5pm dinner
6.30pm bottle 200ml, in bed by 7pm

after her breakfast, lunch and dinner she will drink from her straw cup with water as she loves water. I have tried giving her a sippee cup but she is just not interested in it, this is for the water the spout is too hard and just not interested in it, so bought the straw cup and she loves to sip from a straw.

i thought i would like to start to get her to take her 1.45pm bottle in a sippee, i tried this and she didnt want it, so i then left it for a week and today i put it in a straw cup. I sat her on my lap and she took a few sips, then stopped. Then i said thats a good girl drink some more, she had some more and more. It took a bit longer than giving her the bottle as it onlly takes her about 5 or so minutes to drink her bottle. Eventually she drank the lot which was great.

Should i try a sippee again or keep up with the straw? i notice with the straw the milk comes out quick so would take her longer to drink it i guess, is there a sippee out there that might suit my lo, as she much prefers the soft spout ones.

thanks kirsten

Hey Kirsten,
If she likes the straw cup I would probably just use that!  We have only just managed to get our 2 yo to stop drinking from bottles, he suddenly decided that milk in a cup wasn't poisinous and that it wasn't necessary to scream if it came in other drinking receptacle LOL...they really do things in their own good time!!
