aaaargh another 10 hour night!
« on: June 21, 2010, 22:05:03 pm »
ok getting really sick of these now, he was up at 5.15am and we tried for 45mins to get him back to sleep!!!! I dont do anything differernt during the day. no matter what time he wakes up naptime is 12.30 and bedtime is roughly 7pm but boy am i getting sick of it. yesterday he did a 1.5 hour nap so i nothing was extra out of the ordinary, he usually sleeps 1 hour 45mins but im still happy with 1.5 hours. hes had a blocked and runny nose for 7 weeks (yes 7 freaking weeks! he gets over a cold for two days and then it comes back!) but we have the vaporiser on all night for him and he can breathe really well.

its now 9am and hes looking absolutely shattered, theres no way he will make it to 12.30!

so what the heck is going on??

DD was like that, but she would actually not sleep at night until much later. If I remember well she stopped napping during daytime from around 14 months. But she would sleep from 7pm to 7.30am.
Have you tried cutting down his nap time?

he definately needs his 1.5 hour nap, I think actually now, that this is a canines teething issue.

well unfortunately we had a meltdown at 9.50am, he was crying, screaming, just a mess, so i gave him some nuerofen in case it was teething and popped him in his stroller to get him to fall asleep as he was so worked up there was no way he was going to fall asleep on his own. it took 9 mins and he was out, have popped him into bed now, think i might just let him sleep as much as he wants, he may only do a short one though as he was extremely OT, to have had 5 hours A time by 10.15am on a 10 hour night was obvioulsy a bit too much for him. we may have to APOP a Pm nap as well as he never does two naps anymore no matter how hard I try

Im not great with A times... But I'm definately in favour of some neurofen or tylenol when the LO seems in pain. If it's the canines it'll take about a week but then he should be back to his usual self!

Wow - lucky you! my DS has just cut his last canine and i swear it has been 4 months...
Jo - I think you are right about the canines....DS did have a constant cold for 3 months which went the same time as three of the teeth had come through. there were quite a few 2 nap days for us even when he was around 17 months.
I def think he needs the sleep.
Agree with the meds x

Well he had a 1.5 hour nap after that meltdown and then was awake at 11.40am until bedtime at 6.50pm he's just woken up now at 6am so a much better night, I haven't been giving meds at bedtime because we aren't having any issues there and so far no NWs its just these early starts, I'm gonna aim for an 11.30am nap today as he seems to be handling a long PM better than a longer AM at the moment, plus he has swimming this morning which always makes him way more tired!
I'm giving meds during the day as he really does seem to need it then

I think you are right Laura, we did the same thing yesterday, he was awake at 6am, ready for bed at 11.30 but i managed to push it till 11.45 (where did our set 12.30 go???? cos he used to last till then easily!) and he slept 1 hour 45 mins, was up at 1.30pm and lasted till 7pm, slept through till 5.50am, I still get upset that i get a shorter nap than most people and still less than 12 hour nights with that. i figured one of the sleeps would be long, at least a huge nap or a full 12 hour night, feels like im getting the raw end of the deal!

hmmm i think i spoke too soon, hes been asleep now for nearly three hours!!! he woke at 40mins and put himself back to sleep, woke at 1 hour 40mins and i patted him (i never do this after 1.5 hours, i usually just get him up) and its been nearly three hours and hes still asleep, in fact i even opened up his bedroom door 30mins ago so that he could wake up more gently rahter than have me wake him up, which i planned on doing at 2.5 hours but i just cant wake him. oh dear, its gonna be a late night for us!

the last time we had a nap this long he was about 6/7 months old!

Hope you enjoyed the nap :)
