Weaning DreaM Feed
« on: July 30, 2010, 14:44:39 pm »
My LO is 7.5 months and DH and I  have started weaning DF but we have a small bump already. We are weaning the DF the exact way Tracy recommend in BWSAYP and are on day 5. My daughter is a great night sleeper and 9/10 sleeps the whole night through we actually set an alarm to wake her in the morning!!! She usually sleeps 12.-12.5 hrs at night, but since we have started weaning the DF she keeps pulling her sleep back every night. She got up at 6:50 am this morning and DH is worried that the farther we go with the weaning the earlier she will wake up. We had a issue with Lo getting up way too early a couple of months ago. it lasted 6 weeks of her getting up between 5-6 am every day !!! I was thinking of adding the next oz off her DF to her bed bottle instead of her 3rd bottle. Dose it really matter which bottle i add the oz to? and which order? maybe spilt it up ex. .5 oz 3rd bottle and .5 oz bed bottle? Confused, i know i am and worried too :(

I was exactly the same weaning the DF, so worried about messing up a good thing! The EW could be for many reasons and not just the DF though.

As for which bottle you add oz's to well I guess it doesn't matter really. I personally always liked the bedtime bottle to be the big un! When we were weaning the DF I let him drink as much as he could at bedtime.

It took us ages to wean properly, I think DS was about 8.5 months by the time we were DF free! Most of that was because of my resistance to letting it go. It was my fave feed of the day!  :P

Well we are still going on the weaning of the DF and LO is still waking up early :( I put another oz in her bed bottle last night and she slept till 6:30 am this morning. I am going to put another oz in it tonight and see if then she will sleep till 7 am. DH now wants to stop the weaning but I want to try giving a whole 8 oz bottle at bed and see if she will sleep the 12 hrs like she use to. Any other suggestions would be helpful, thanks !

How was last night? I would definitly offer a bigger bottle at bed time - let her take as much as she wants. Sleeping til 6.30am is a lie in in this house!

So 11 hours solid sleep - sounds good to me! Sounds like she is eating well - if she is draining that 8oz bottle there's no reason you can't offer 9oz. Have you increased her other bottles - how much is she taking milk and solids wise?

Laura, I gave her an 8oz bottle last night and tonight, she drank 7.5oz both times. Yes i have added one oz to 1st bottle of day, one oz to 2nd bottle as well. Tomorrow her 3rd bottle will have one oz added to it. She eats 3 meals a day ( 1.5-2 hrs after her bottle)
12 teaspoons pre meal. she slept 12 hrs last night but only napped for 1.5 today. Dont know what is going on with the napping but we will ride it out i guess

It could be that your EASY needs tweaking - she may be ready for more A time for example! If the short napping keeps up post on EASY to see if anyone has any ideas! That's a good night though!

Had Lo weight and measured yesterday, some of her undershirts just weren't fitting this week and wanted to know if she grew or I shrunk them lol!!! So since the last time she was weight and measured, exactly 3 weeks ago, she has gained .5 lbs and grew 1 inch !!!!! we also started chicken this week and she kinda likes it( will only eat half then goes to fruit). i think this would explain the early wakings and why she is draining all her bottles.

A growth spurt could well do it! She may also be needing to extend her A times a bit - how is she when she wakes early? How are things going now?

she is fine when she wakes early, same as when she gets up at 7 am. 3-3.5 hr A time is usually what she has, do I  need to extend it?

Well everything seems to have run its course, the last couple of day she will only drink 6 oz out of her 3rd bottle not 7 oz like she should but I am working on it. We only have 4 more nights and then its' over :) Since Dh was at work tonight I went in and DF LO. Its kinda sad and I have to admit that I got a hitch in my chest thinking that is part of her babyhood is coming to an end :'(. Dh works this whole week so I will be ending the DF, I started them with her at 6 weeks ( before that it was not everynight but my sister did DF her for the first time when she was 6 days old !!!) I can't believe DF will be over for my baby..... and we can now go to bed at 8 pm is we so choose  ;) ;D

I'm so fustrated and dead tried. LO always STTN and this getting up is making all of us very cranky. Any advise?????
