Can I last feed with solid instead of milk before sleep?
« on: July 27, 2010, 13:06:24 pm »
I would also like to ask some of you if you do adhere to a min. of oz to feed each round?

I also have an issue here, i followed what the mummies here are advocating, drink milk then solid. If LO doesnt want to drink milk we will cut down the solid. Lately, my LO routine becomes 3 milk feed. 3 solid.

E: 6.30am-- 180ml milk (sometimes he will drink only 150ml and we will mix 30ml with oats or cereal with fruits an hr later)
E: 10.30-11pm - 180ml milk
E:1.30 -- solid --- porridge with chicken or fish with veg (1 bowl)
E: 4-5pm: 180ml milk
E: 7-8pm solid - porridge with chicken or fish with veg (1 bowl)

If he sleeps after 930 we will feed him another round of say 90-150ml. If not, usually after the last solid feed he will doze off...so my question is it ok to last feed solid instead of milk before sleep?  At times i can't seem to adhere to the minimum milk intake required. argh.

I don't think overall it matters so long as your LO is getting enough milk.  At 8 months we were on 3 meals and still on 4 milk feeds.

At 6-7 months, LOs should be taking about 28-32 oz of milk (so 800-950ml) in a day reducing down to about 24oz (700ml) once you've three meals on the go and upto a year (where most then go to about 20oz).  From what I can see your LO is taking about 540mls (including the milk in the cereal) which is probably a feed less than is recommended.  Although if he was to consistently take that last feed he'd be a lot more on target with the milk.

Your day is quite long.  Is there any way you could do dinner an hour after your milk feed at 4 or 5pm?  So either 5 or 6pm and then the milk feed where that dinner is?

Is he sleeping ok?  Pooping ok?

Do you offer a sippy of anything with meals? The only concern I would have about giving the solids last is if lo is going to be thirsty after the food. My ds was not taking water or sippy at that age so I always wanted to make sure he ended with bfing as last for the day. I would try to give the solids earlier in the evening and maybe a smaller amount to see if lo will take some more milk before bed.

Hi Shiv52, I would like him to feed on more milk but sometimes he just resists to finish even 180ml. I gota mix the balance into cereal/oats.

First time mom>> Yes, I do offer water in between solid and then after solid water again.

As I am from Asia, many of them believe in serving porridge mixed with carrot/chicken during lunch n dinner...and believe that they shd be fed with this and milk in b/w the meal times. I also came across another author calls Gina ford who mentions a different school of thoughts. She said that at 8 mths up, LO shd have 3 milk n 3 solids per day and more nutrients shd come fr solids. Sometimes it does confuse me... :)

I ever tried letting my LO sleeps earlier at 8pm..but he will wake up before 1030 to search for either pacifier or drink milk (but never finish, still left 60ml)
