Baby hates car seat!

My 1 year old hates travelling in the car and it's beginning to make the shortest journeys really stressful.
She's fine going into the seat but as soon as we're out of the driveway the crying starts. I've checked that the seat is comfortable and have given her toys to play with but she just throws them across the car in temper. I've tried playing music, singing to her and silence!!...but the crying just escalates until she's screaming.
She's a spirited/text book baby so I don't know if it's just somehing that she will hopefully grow out of?!. I just don't know if there's anything else I could try to make things a bit easier for her (and for me!).
Any advice would be much appreciated.

has she always hated it or just now?  Mine hated it forever until she got taller and I could see her straining to see out the windows so we put a couple of big books under the seat to raise it up so she can see out the windows.  We went from 15 months of car seat issues to no problem at all now.  We even went on a 3 hour trip a few week ends ago and she did FABULOUS in the car!!!! :o
It was all about seeing out the windows for my LO.

Hi Katy,
You don't mention the car seat you have - is it back or forward facing?
We had some crying when using the back facing seat but once we put DD into the forward facing seat, she was much better. She loves being able to see stuff and laughs when we open the front windows and the wind blows her face.
Or maybe it's because she can't see you?
