2-1 nao transition
« on: August 28, 2010, 01:11:29 am »
I never thought I would be considering this since my lo is 9 months but the last week has made me think we are ready to transition. I will post my routine below but was wondering if others have had same problem. We did almost no am nap monday, Wed, thursday and Friday. The only problem is that today's nap ran short (just under 2h) and so she was way ot by bedtime. It took me over an hour for her to settle. Usually I can just put her in her crib and she goes down with no or minimal fussing. Could it be she can do no nap every other day but not all days or is it probably just a fluke that today went off... Not sure what I should continue to try...

Before I tried cutting nap 1 our routine was as follows:

Awake 7
S 9:30-10:15
A 4.5 hrs anything shorter gives me a 45 min nap
S 2:45-4:15
Bedtime 7:30

Our routine this week  (We do strollercise Mon, Wed and Friday so that is why we got the short short car nap in the am). I can have her sleep in the stroller but that makes for a really late pm nap (3-5) and often she will cut it short.

Monday
Awake 7ish
S 9:50-10 (on the way to strollercise)
A until 1:20
S until 4
Bedtime at 7:30

Tuesday (what our typical day was before I tried cutting am nap)
Awake 7ish
S 10:00-10:45 (took a walk and didn't think she would sleep but she did)
A until 2:45
S 3-4:45
Bedtime at 7:35

Wednesday
Awake 7ish
S 9:50-10 (on the way to strollercise)
A until 1:20
S until 4
Bedtime at 7:30

Thursday
Awake 7ish
S 9:20-9:35 (before going out)
A until 1:30
S until 3:40 (was a little OT since awoke a fussed a min or so twice during her nap)
Bedtime at 7:20

Friday
Awake 6:50
S 9:50-10
A until 1:15
S until 2:55 (but again fussed once during the nap)
Bedtime at 7 but she was way OT and took an hour to get her down.

Any suggestions would be appreciate it. I'm not sure I'm willing to cut out the exercise classes since I have stayed home for the past 4 months to respect her routine. I would like to find a way to incorporate M, W and F class. I'm flexible with Tuesday and Thursday though...

That morning A seems short and your middle A seems really long...I'm wondering if you try extending that first morning A time to atleast 3hr and then a 45 min nap then a middle A time of say 3h30min what kind of pm nap you would get.  Or you could even try cutting that am nap down to 30 min.

I have tried playing with the time of the am nap but for anything over 25 minutes I need 4.5h second A time... Anything shorter gives me a 45 ut nap... She has always been a good night sleeper but has had long A times since 3 months. She was on a 4h easy at 3 months and we dropped the catnap at 6 months since she already could handle a 3h A time easily....

Well I think as long as you keep getting that long pm nap things should be fine.  If you think your lo can handle a 4h plus first A then I would try a one nap day.

Thanks for the encouragement. We have had another rough couple of days but I will keep trying stuff. I'm also wanting to work in the strollercise which is complicating things a bit but helping mom stay sane and get back in shape so I'm not yet at a point where I want to give that up - probably part of the tougher times.
