8 month old bottles going a bit wonky
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:27:40 am »
hi my 8 month olds bottle feeds have gone a bit wonky. our easy (before 2 days ago) looked like this:
6:30 to 7 wake up
drinks 6 to 8 oz.
8 breakfast
9:15-9:30 sleep
10:30 to 11 wake up (we wake him to keep the pm nap)
drinks 4 to 6 oz of 6 oz bottle
12 noon lunch
1-1:30 down for sleep
3-3:30 wakes up
drinks 4 to 6 oz of 6 oz bottle
4:15 to 4:30 dinner
bet 6 and 6:30 drinks 4 to 8 oz of 8 oz bottle
sleep through night

we struggled to get here. Until a couple of weeks ago, we had early wakings and terrible naps. then i started feeding him solids until he stopped eating, introduced a steady supply of protein, and really focused on working out how his sleep should work and we got our sleeps back.

for the past 3 days his bottles have gone all funny with him rejecting or not drinking a lot, especially later in the day, waking in the night and drinking 5 to 6 oz, early wakings are back. He's had a bit of a runny nose (but nothing shocking) and he's basically been teething for about 4 months it feels like.

He's a bit kid with a very healthy appetite and if i can't get his milk in during the day, he always wakes at night, no matter what he eats.

This morning he drank 7 oz at about 6:30 then a big breakfast and has now just completely refused his 11 am bottle.

He's got mild reflux.

I'm wondering if i should drop the 11 am feed and just do one at 1 before his sleep? I'm really not wanting to get back into the night feed, early waking cycle that we've worked so hard to fix...
thanks for any thoughts

He could be needing to drop a bottle but first if you haven't already, try a faster teat, pain meds/ teething gel before a feed. Is the reflux under control? Is it medicated? It could be reflux related that can effect feeds.

How much solids is he eating? That could also be reducing the milk intake if he is eating a lot. It could be worth dropping back a little to increase the milk a bit more if that's the case.
