bed time problem
« on: September 13, 2010, 17:37:21 pm »
Hello all,

I need help for my 15 weeks old daughter who cannot sleep in the evening. We are now at 3. 1/2 easy schedule. She is sleeping with mobile for her naps and there is not any problem most of the time, however at the bedtime routine nothing seems working. She sleeps half an hour without problem, then she wakes up and she does not go on sleeping.. What should I do?

Hi there - can you post your EASY, please?  I had (am still having, but getting much better!) this problem with DD.  Without knowing what your day looks like, I would speculate that she might be up too long before bedtime (OT, hence waking up after 30 min) and/or she might need to increase A time during the day.  That was definitely the combination of problems in our case.  DD wasn't getting enough A time in her day and had to get it in somewhere (hence being awake at night after bedtime) plus she was OT from the A right before bed - so not sleeping very long when she went to bed.  HTH!

Our schedule is the all most the same like Tracy suggested in her book like this;

E:7:30
A:8:00
S:9:00 (1 AND HALF HOUR)
E:10:30
A:11:00
S:12:30 (1 hour)
E:1:45
A:2:15
S:3:00(1 and 1 3/4 hour)
E:4:30
A:5
S:6:45

I put her bad 15 minutes before sleeping time because it takes her 15 minutes to sleep.
Thank you so much for your quick response

I made a little mistake..

Sleeping at 3pm should be 1 and 1/4 hour

LOL - That's what I was wondering!  I was going to ask.   :)

Okay, so if I understand your EASY correctly it looks like 1st A is 1.5 hrs, 2nd is 2hrs, 3rd is 1.5 hrs, and last one is 2.5 hrs?  So her daytime A time is only 7.5 so she's going to need to get some extra A time somewhere otherwise she would be sleeping 16.5hrs a day and probably doesn't need that much sleep.  Maybe it might help to work on increasing A time during the day and shorten that last A before bed.  If DD is still getting a 1hr nap after being up for 2hrs from 10:30-12:30 then she's not OT and can handle a 2hr A time, IMO.  Then that 2.5 A before bed makes sense with her only sleeping for 30 min since 30min usually means OT.

If you can try extending her first A time and 3rd A time then she won't need to get that extra A time in after bedtime.  I would aim for 2hr A time and 1.5 hr naps on the 3.5 EASY and see if that helps?  Keep us posted!

Maria

Thank you so much. I hope this will help..

What about your problem? You said it is getting better..so you have some kind of problem..

It is really encouraging when you learn it is not something special for my daughter.

Ugh, my daughter's a wreck - totally OT all day long - 30 min naps 3 x day - multiple NW (this is new, but not surprising, given the nap problems).  From 2-3 mos she never went to be before 11:30pm or 1:30am, even!  We fixed that, whew.  Got her a decent bedtime but she still woke up 45 min after bed, then would be up, then would wake up again an hour after going down. Last night woke up an hour after bed (improvement!), but then was up every 2hrs.

Be glad your LO is getting good daytime sleep!

Hello again,

Guess what is the result?  :o

Last night she went bed without crying..however then she woke up at 3am, 4am and 6am..

Today again she went bed very easily, then again she woke up at 7.30pm, 8.30pm and 10.30pm..

What is going on? Is there anyone who can guess something?

Thank you..

ps. I did 2 hour activity and then 1.5 hour sleep for all day..

So it sounds like last night was an improvement - not waking up 30 minutes after bedtime, but then she was back at it today?  So is this what it looks like?:

E:7:30
A:8:00
S:9:30 (1 AND HALF HOUR)
E:11:00
A:11:30
S:1:00 (1.5 hour)
E:2:30
A:3:00
S:4:30 (1.5 hour)
E:6:30

Or did she start her day earlier since she was up at 6am?  You might try shortening that last nap of the day to a 45 min catnap.  I know it's frustrating.  People keep reminding me that it can take several days to see results and that we have to just be consistent.  It's so hard, though, when it seems like nothing is working to stick with the same plan for several days.
