naps and school run
« on: September 26, 2010, 15:07:22 pm »
At the end of last week we seemed to be fine with a routine (after seeming to have recovered from teething making an extra tiered baby) that looked prety much like this

A - 6.30 ish
S - going down somewher between 9.30 and 10 for half an hour
A - 10-10.30
S - 12.30ish for 2 hours
A - 2.30 ish
S - 6.30 ish

The last two days he has not woken until 7 pushing the day back a little and then has wanted a slightly longer 2nd A time meaning he hasn't gone down until 1 (yesterday) and then today 1.30 tomorrow I am back to school runs meaning that I need to leave the house by 2.40 at the latest, not sure what to do???

Any suggestions, feel awful that my LO always has to fit in around my older son but try to remind myself he gains a lot from having him around as well!

Hi there,
You probably don't want to hear this but you may need to wake him at 6.30am. If he is sleeping from 6.30pm-7am it is unlikely he will need a nap until later as you have said. Sorry!

was wondering about waking him (although you are right I'd rather start the day at 7) although as his whole day seems to have shifted he hasn't been going down until later (bedtime has been 7 not 6.30). His wakes ups have always been all over the place so he may wake himself by 6.30 anyway.

Thanks for your reply.

Or could it be time to start cutting back on the first nap a bit?

I have the school run to contend with also. As time went on he'd be sleeping for an hour or so at 9ish and then it'd be a battle to get him down at 1ish. So I gradually cut his first nap back, first to 45 mins, then 30, then 20, etc etc until he was down to 1 nap.

This might be of some help?

Thanks Consmummy, that was the other possibility that I was half considering. Keaton has always woken earlier than my first son did and the fact that he has slept until around 7 the last two days has been blissful, in some ways I really don't want to then have to wake him tomorrow (although chances are he may well wake himself anyway). I am worried though about pushing him in the 2-1, really don't want an OT baby on my hands, he's a handful at the best of times!

The other thing I was thinking about was trying to switch his naps so that he was having a bigger am nap and then a catnap after the school run but am worried I'll then get nap refusal (has happened in the past hence why we were doing the short am long pm).

I'll see whether I can face waking him at 6.30 tomorrow when DH wakes me getting ready to leave for work (if he's not already awake) and go from there. Off to bed now in case tomorrow is a long one!
