Need Advice Clocks Going Back Tonight 15 Month Toddler!

Hi I wonder if anyone can offer me any advice quickly. The clocks go back tonight and my little boy 15 months woke up this morning at 5 a.m and refused to go back to sleep. Now I'm getting worried about what time to put him to bed tonight because I don't want him waking even earlier from now on.

He has been waking early for the last couple of weeks from 5.00-6.15 usually, before this he was sleeping well having about 11 hrs sleep at night, going to bed at 8pm and waking at around 7am. So I have been experimenting with his bedtimes to try and get it right. What I've found is that if he goes to bed later at the moment say 7.45/8pm I still get an early morning wake up. If he goes to bed 7.00-7.30 he wakes around 5.30-5.45.

He is still having 2 naps a day, just turned 15 months and still seems to need them. I was thinking about changing him to 1 nap a day soon but can't until I get these early morning wake ups sorted out.

His routine at the moment is usually like this:
5.30a.m Wake
9.45a.m Nap 1 (1 1/2 hr) I wake him up
3.15-4.00 Nap 2 (45mins) I wake him up
7.30 Bed (Lately he takes up to 20 mins to go off)

Any advice would be greatly received!

Couldn't read this and not reply as the routine your son has is identical to what my sons was. He didn't drop to one nap until 20months! It was the only thing that helped. I gave him 5.5 hrs either side of the nap and bed around 7pm. Sometimes earlier. We got him a groclock and at 24months he finally started sleeping 11+ hrs a night again and stayed asleep until 6, earliest, even 7:30 these days. He's 2.5 now. The clock really was the only thing o solve the Ew, he would want out of bed as early as 4:30, sometimes 4, but with the clock he quickly learnt to wait quietly, and began going back to sleep! As you probably know that's rare for an Ew toddler! I'm not of much use really, but hope you find something that works too. My Lo is ill at the minute and waking at 6, so I too am dreading the 5am start tomorrow. But I remember from last year it doesn't take long to work itself out.XX

I agree...we also got DS a gro clock...he started with EW at exactly 12 months and we had 2 months of 4.30-5.30 am wake ups. Then with the advice of amazing people on here we decided to go cold turkey on one nap (at about 11.30am after a 5.30 wake up) and we got him a gro clock at the same time (this was about 14 months) and he started doing 2-2h45 naps (unheard of for my chronic 30 min napper) and 12ish hour nights for the first time EVER...With the clock changes he had a really good nap a couple of days ago so we kept him up a bit later and have been trying to push his day forward since then. I'm sure we'll have a crazy early start tomorrow but I guess it'll be a gradual thing to readjust. From tonight onwards his bedtime will just stay at 7.30pm even though it's 8.30pm in old time and his body will just have to catch up (either that or it will all go wrong but I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed

DS is 16 months old by the way

Good luck and keep us posted x

Morning!
My little boy woke at 5.00a.m after going to sleep at 8.00p.m so was better than I thought (4.00a.m). Now I need to work on getting him to sleep in a little later on a morning like he used to.
I'm not sure if he is ready for the 2-1 transition yet, (don't think I want him to move to one nap either). He loves his naps and I always have to wake him up. I prefer an 8.00 p.m bedtime because his Dad often does not get home until 7.00p.m, so he likes to spend time with him before he goes to bed.

Hi everyone! I have a few questions if anyone could help me:
When did your LO's start only having 1 nap?
Does anyone know what the A Time should be for my little one who is 15 months?
Does anyone have any suggestions for a routine tweak for me?
Thanks

Hi,
Most lo's transition from 2 naps to 1 between 1 year and 18 months.
Your lo seems to be doing a very long day and I would try to shorten that a little. 3.5 hours at the end of the day is quite a long A time after a 45 min nap. Have you tried shortening that?

How long do you think is an appropriate A after that last 45 mins nap?

Today my little one woke up at 4 a.m aaaargh!
I think he is ready for the 2-1 transition but don't know where to start when he's waking this early. Do you think I should wait until he's waking nearer to 6 before attempting 1 nap? then do 51/2 A Morning then 51/2 A Afternoon after 2 hr-2 1/2 nap?
Going to put him to bed at 7pm tonight to see if that helps

Did he go back to sleep after that 4 a.m. wake up???

I don't think you should wait because really if the routine is off then you won't get any improvement until you fix whatever is off.  So if he needs to be on 1 nap or fluctuating between 1 and 2 naps then you need to make the move to that to help the EW.  It's a bit of a chicken and egg scenario and I've never found any way around it really.

My 2c is to shorten that PM nap, cut back to 20-30 mins and then do your 3 hr A time to bed.

So something looking maybe like:
Awake 5:30
Nap 10 - 11:30
Nap 3:30 - 3:50/4
Bedtime asleep by latest 7

If you do 1 nap I think you will need a much earlier bedtime for a while.

The tweaking never stops!

Hi he didnt go back off this morning at 4am, I will shorten the 2nd nap today and have him bed for 7pm and see how that goes. If I get a later wake up tommorrow I will ask his nursery to try him with 1 nap tommorrow. The only thing is they do lunch at 12pm so I will have to ask if its possible to have his earlier. Will let you know how things work out, thanks!
