12 month old sudden nw
« on: October 01, 2010, 21:20:08 pm »
hi
i am after some help, i have been bw since my little girl was just 3 weeks old and she slept through from about 5 weeks til 11 months and had naps pretty much like clockwork! (lucky i know!)

we have had regular nw since just before her first birthday about 6 weeks ago. she occassionally sleeps through but 5 nights out of 7 she is waking up at least once. she isn't even waking at regular times, last night it was near midnight other times around 2 or 3 or 4 am so i can't even try the wake to sleep method. she settles fine around 7.30pm without any fuss then just wakes up crying and doesn't want us to leave her room and it can take up to an hour to settle her. she can cry so hard she is almost sick if we try and leave the room and i dont want to do cc at all (is this the only way out of this situation now ?)

i just don't understand, you could count the number of times she woke up on your fingers from 2 months  - 11 months!

typical day:

awake 6.30 ish milk

nap for 10 or 15 mins on way to nursery 7.45- 8am

breakfast 8am

snack 10am

lunch 12pm

sleep 1-3pm

snack 3.30

tea 5.30

milk 7

sleep 7.30 ish

nothing has  changed that i can think of to set this off. the first night she did it it was so out of the blue we thought she must have been ill to suddenly scream like that!  then we thought it may be nightmares, but i just don;t know.  she started nursery back in may (ages ago) and settled in no problems.she started walking around the time nw started but i can't see how that links and must just be a coincidence?

help ?!!!!

any ideas

Hi there, could it be SA? how long has she been at nursery?

CC isnt the only way left, you can always try Wi/Wo which we have great success with, however not the best idea with SA I dont think

Just wondering if the new mobility could be making her more tiered? Looks like she is on the lower end of average sleep for her age. My son who was one in September has about  the same amont of daytime sleep (his big nap is earlier in his day) as her but is getting in some more nightsleep. Have you tried living bedtime forward a little? I presume her nap is fixed at nursery?

i was going thinking that but was worried about early wakeups if she went to bed any earlier!
she would sleep longer in the morning that the 15 mins to nursery  - may be reintroduce a longer morning nap  - leave the house earlier? i know she wouldn't resettle to sleep again as nursery she is just way too excited there! Her ltn is pretty fixed as they all have their dinner at 12 / 12.30  (she falls alseep staright away afterwards around 1), at weekends she naturally has her dinner nearer 11.30 and is asleep around 12.30. we still have nw though as she doesn't sleep as long at home for some reason x

I know I was nervous about the early bedtime meaning an earlier wake time but if my O is OT it definitely doesn't here (am relying on early bedtimes a lot due to only having one nap some days). I just think if she is going to sleep so soon after waking maybe she is really quite tiered??

Maybe you could also ask if they can try and make sure she is one of the first to be fed and down for her sleep at nursery?

Let me know how it goes if you are brave enough to try an early night ( I am doing as early as 6pm some nights and last week we had some 12+hr nights (just over 13 once)  which is the longest he has ever done.

I'm so curious to hear if things have gotten better....I'm having a similar problem with my 12 month old and we are on a similar schedule as well.

same here, similar issue, same wake up time, but my DD is still taking 2 naps... and thus a later bedtime (8;30)
