14 mo waking at 4:30 am
« on: November 09, 2010, 18:15:02 pm »
OK, so DD used to wake up at 5:30.  I would just give her a bottle or sippy of milk (about 4 oz.) and she'd drink it and go back to sleep.  I really don't think she was hungry, but it was just habit and I was too lazy to do anything about it.  However, now that daylight savings has ended it's 4:30 and I would appreciate any advice on how to stop it since I've kind of made it "OK" for her to do this. :-\

TIA!!
Andrea

could you post your routine and we can take a look. Does sound like it might be time to ditch the bottle.

Normally this is the routine....

Cries for bottle 4:30 goes right back to sleep
Awake around 7:00/7:30
Eats cheerios on the way to daycare.
Breakfast around 8:30
Lunch around 11 or 11:30
Nap 12:30 - 2:30 or 3
Snack 3
Snack 4:30/5
Dinner around 6/6:30
Bed 7:30ish

She has started to take a slightly shorter nap on some days just recently waking around 2 instead.

She has no other bottles just milk in sippy cups. Mostly with meals/snacks.  However, my daycare lady has another baby that gets a bottle still and if she sees that she wants one and gets one around noon.

Thanks!!

i think your routine looks pretty good tbh. I would bring bedtime earlier on the days she wakes at 2pm.
At this age if she is eating good solid meals I would def stop the bottle. It will be hard initially but worth it.
You could water it down gradually or just go cold turkey. I tend to do things cold turkey but it is up to you on that.

Thanks.  Last night she woke up screaming at midnight which she never does (teeth maybe) so I went and sat by her crib for a couple of minutes, and she was still asleep at 6 when I left.  YAY, maybe this will help to break the cycle.  She did go to bed pretty late last night though.

I'm all for stopping the bottle.  At home she's done with it, she gets mad sometimes, but gets over it quickly.  However, at daycare is tough since there is another baby there.
