Help starting bottlefeeding!
« on: December 21, 2010, 18:28:31 pm »
I have been breastfeeding my 5 month old DS while trying to start getting him on a bottle for at least one feed per day so that he becomes comfortable taking the bottle. I started when he was very young around 6 weeks or so, but wasn't able to pump enough milk to make it consistent. His bottle feeding was more like once a week and he barely ate anything; he just chewed on the nipple. This past month I tried all different bottles and nipples and found one that is really starting to work. He'll take a bottle once at night. BUT....only if I give it to him! DH tries giving it to him and he freaks out, starts wiggling all over and hysterically crying. Same thing with anyone else besides me. The whole point of teaching him to bottlefeed was so that I don't have to be the one to feed him (so I can leave the house once in a while). I wish I would have been more consistent earlier with DH giving a bottle. Next time around I'll do things differently. But what can be done now? Any tips for helping my LO start taking a bottle from other people?

TIA

I've no direct experience I'm afraid but this link has some excellent advice and tips http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=173310.0. Have a look and see what you think.
