frustrated breastfeedings
« on: December 15, 2010, 17:25:13 pm »
I recently transitioned my DS to formula after much stress and thought during exclusively breast feeding. I wanted to make it at least six months breast feeding. I got my period when he turned 2 months and now he is 3 months so since I got my period he fusses at the breast, feeds every 1-2 hours, and seems very gassy. So we decided to transition to formula. He is better and goes up to every 3 hours now. Less fussy and less gassy. more happy. Question is this same thing happened to my daughter two years ago I got my period and breast feeding became difficult. so we got her on formula after much trying and stressing as well. Can getting period affect supply/milk in any way? even now I pump once a day for comfort to wean my breasts and when I give him that milk once in the morning he gets gassy and fussy

I didn't get my periods with DD until I completely stopped BFng so I can't give you first hand experience. But I have heard time and time again in these boards mums saying that the periods did have an impact on their supply - but it seems to be a temporary thing, just for those few days.
Maybe someone else will jump in with their experience.
