6 month old awake from 2 am
« on: January 07, 2011, 09:46:41 am »
Hi all, my LO has just turned 6 months and for the past 2 nights has been waking up from approx 2 am onwards.  Previously he's been a good wee sleeper; maybe weaking once or twice from 5 am for his dummy but often going right through from 7pm til 6-7am.  When he's woken recently he's not crying but 'singing' or talking to himself.  I've initially not gone to him as he doesn't sound distressed but eventually he starts to cry and I've gone in to soothe him by giving dummy.  Other night I picked him up and rocked him to sleep as he was wide awake but he was awake angain and singing to himself half an hour later arrgghh!  Other relevant info; he;s just started on solids for 3 weeks and only this week on 3 meals a day.  He's also teething on and off with first teeth still not through.
Current routine is up in the air- used to have a very predictable 3 hour EASY but for past month or so it has gone haywire with transition to 4 hurs feeds and now intro of solids.
For past week it has been a bit like this:
A 7am
E- bottle and solids 7.30/8am
S 9.30 catnap (30mins)
E 11.30/12pm solids and bottle
S varies- anytime from 1to 4pm for approx 1hr
E 3pm Bottle

E 6pm bottle and solids
6.30 bath
7pm bed
10pm DF

ANy help would be really appreciated!

That's still really low for a baby his age, do you think it could be overtiredness? Or do you think the dummy has become a prop?

i am concerned actually that the dummy is a prop. Usually when he just wants it though he cries and then stops as soon as its in and then straight back to sleep.  This recent waking is just playing and cooing for ages then crying. V confused.

Do you think it would be worth weaning the dummy to see if that helps with all of his sleep? It's an odd one for sure,  usually a 'crib party' would signify undertiredness but I am sure that can't be the case on only 1.5hrs sleep in a day.
