Need help shifting my day
« on: January 16, 2011, 12:05:06 pm »
It looks like my little textbook/angel baby is beginning to settle into an 11hour night as opposed to a 12hour night. I don't think she is waking up OT. I need to shift her day forward so we can at least get a 6:30am-7am wake up, instead of a 5:45am-6am wake up. She has been giving me these wakings every other day. Mommy is a little tired!  :P  I can sometimes AP her back to sleep by rocking her. She is a little higher on the A times.

Here is how our EASY yesterday:
wake 7am
A 7-9:23am
S 9:23-10:50am
A 10:50am-1:05pm
S 1:05-1:50pm
a 1:50pm--3:40pm (little OT here)
S 3:40pm-5pm (Had to rock her 30min into nap)
A 5-:6:50pm
S6:50pm
NF 11pm
NF 3am
Wake at 5;45am. I put her on my shoulder and she was falling back to sleep. I decided to walk to my bed and she woke up! :'(

Any ideas please?

Well the EASY is good and the As high so not much room for wiggling.

I would try and slowly push the first A to extend the times out but remember to move the whole day with it - so bottles etc as well.

The shorter nights are likely due to the start of the needing to drop the CN thing. Might be worth capping the CN at 30 mins now.

Thanks Liz. I will give that a try. She woke up again at 5am this morning and I had to AP her back to sleep by letting her fall asleep on the bottle.  :'(

I think you have to AP EWs really as they never go back down otherwise.

I am just tired ATM.  I don't know what I am doing wrong! This morning she woke up at 5:30am, got her to snooze for another 20min and then decided to start her day.
Grrrrr....
Here is how yesterday went:
wake 7:10am
A7:10-9:35am
S 9:35-10:15am(rolled)
A10:15am-12:10pm
S 12:10-1:10pm
A1:10-3:20pm
s 3:20-5pm (woke up 30min into nap. rocked her back to sleep)
A 5-7pm
s 7pm
Nf 1am took one hour to settle her
NF 5:30am
woke up around 6am

Is there anything I can do to at least start her day at 6:30am??? I wouldn't mind too much if I could nap during the day, but that is impossible ATM.

Well on that day I would say she had too much sleep later in the day, so her day was not balanced, but I assume usually the last nap is a CN.

I would avoid a long CN at this age regardless of how bad the other naps were.

Some LOs respond so well to routine tweaking (like your Madison), but others are just nowhere near as easy. Both of mine have done long runs of EWs.

Oh boy Liz! These Ews are a killer.
Yesterday she had a CN of 35min and woke up at 5am this morning. It took me over one hour to get her back to sleep. Sigh.

If her naps are awful during the day and she decides to nap more during her cn, how early will bedtime be?  Normally her CN falls around 4pm. If bedtime is around 6pm,  will this cause an even earlier wake up? I am trying to aim for a 6:30am-7am wake up. Do i just ride it out until she can handle more A time and bedtime moves a bit later?

If her CN ends up being her longest nap I think it will encourage EWs - but obviously otherwise she gets OT.

I think on the day you posted she then had 2 hrs A to bed And likely needed a bit more as her morning A was over 2 hrs.

It is hard to know what to say about bedtime as it will vary a bit depending on the naps, but I don't know what you do Bout fitting with Madi's bedtime. I put M down by 7pm so I can put J down at 7.30pm. So an early bedtime is easy if M needs it - and I can go to 7.15 pm - but no further. M needs 3hrs A to bed regardless of a bad nap day so I always wKe her by 4pm to fit it all in.

And I guess you have similar restrictions really.

I used to read you posts about Madi and be completely amazed how you could tweak her routine the way you do. I honestly doubt Alyssa will respond in the same way - simply as so few LOs do  :-\.

Can you post yesterday's routine and I can look again??

Are you still cosleeping at night??

I am always afraid of her becoming OT when she has a CN of 40min before bedtime.  I normally give her an A of 1hr and 45min. I could try longer if she naps a bit longer.
The latest I can push bedtime, on a good day, is 7:15pm. Madi goes to bed at 8pm.
I wish she was like Madi. Madi was so easy to tweak.

Here is how yesterday went:
wake 6am
A 6-8:30am
S 8:30-10:20am(rolled)
A 10:20-12:40pm
S 12:40-2pm
A 2-4:05pm
s-4:05-4:45pm
A4:45pm-7pm(we went out)
S 7pm
Nw 11am
NF 1am
NW 3am
NF 5am then wouldn't go back down. She fell back asleep a little after 6am and woke up at 7:30am.  :-\

We are eliminating co sleeping.  She only comes into my bed if I have a hard in the early morning hours and that is b/c she won't settle and I don't want her screaming to wake up Madison.  Last night, I tried to settle her in her crib but since she didn't want to, I had to move her to my bed and settle her there. Lots of crying and pu/pd.

I do think I would try and extend her A a little - I think she is UT short napping some days and robbing night for day sleep on other days.

On that day she gave you a good nap on an A of 2.5 hrs, so 1.75 hrs is going to be too low for her.

So we got a 6:30am wake up today, but we had a rough night. We had so many NWs.  :'(  She woke up at 9:30pm, then 10:30pm. I was able to settle the first Nw but the second one was impossible. She would fall asleep on my shoulder but as soon as I put her down in the crib she would begin to cry. Reflux??? I gave her pain meds and a bottle and then she went back to sleep. She woke again at 2am and i settled her with a bit of crying.  Then again 40min later. I gave her another bottle and she went back to sleep.  My God, does this girl enjoy to eat.  :( She doesn't need these bottles at night.

One more thing! I don't know why I can't get her morning nap past 1hr and 20min.  Normally she rolls over and wakes herself up, but today she didn't.  Sigh.
