15 mo struggling to settle
« on: February 08, 2011, 20:24:01 pm »
Hi,

My 15mo son has always been good at going to sleep at night.  He normally goes to bed at 7pm and settles within 10 mins. However, over the last 5 nights he's struggled to settle.  He doesn't cry but stays awake talking to himself for 1-1.5 hours and then cries for a bit before finally going to sleep.  He seems tired at bed time but not over-tired.

About two weeks ago we dropped his morning nap and he now only sleeps after lunch for 1.5-2 hours.

I think he may be having a growth spurt as he is eating well for him (he's never been much of an eater), would that affect his ability to settle?

The other possibility is that the lunchtime nap used to be between 1-1.5 hours and he used to sleep in the morning for 30 mins.  Now he does it all after lunch so it could be too much sleep in the afternoon?

Any ideas?  He does seem tired at bedtime so I don't understand it, in the past he was always very good at going to sleep.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there....

Sounds like he's possibly OT to me.....a few questions if you don't mind.

Can you post his current routine?
You mentioned you dropped his morning nap a couple of weeks ago.....did you do this gradually?
Could he be teething?

GS (growth spurt) shouldn't effect his ability to self-settle, if it was impacting on his sleep I would expect it to show up as NW's when he would be hungry.
