Yesterday afternoon I took DS out to the shops for a while.  I expected him to sleep in the car on the way there & back but he barely slept at all, max 30mins, & so when home I tried to put him down in his cot but he fought & fought it for well over an hour & half (am guessing as OT) & by then it was after 5pm, so we got him ready for bed a little early.

Basically he was up from 11am - 5.45pm with only 30mins sleep.  Recently he's been doing 1.5hr naps both a.m. & p.m. plus C/N, so this is AWFUL I know, but I really did try my best to get him down (unfortunately to no avail!!!).

He woke crying every 15-30 mins from going to bed until around 3am.  Seriously we got up to him SO many times I lost count.  He'd settle when we went in & re-plugged his dummy, only to wake again after another 30mins crying.

Will this be due to him being OT???  Can it really cause SO MANY wakings????

Tonight seems to be going equally as badly & he is crying out every 15mins or so.  If we go to him he stops straight away.  Today he did get some day sleep, but not enough, despite my trying by taking him on a V long walk.

Don't think its the dummy causing the problem as this hasnt ever happened before.  His 2 bottom teeth have come through in the last week, so not sure if it could be teething pain or b/c he's OT due to the missed sleep yesterday or maybe something else like a cold coming on?  He's never had a cold so not sure how it might affect night sleep??? We have been medicating him with calpol & teething gel just in case the teeth are bothering him.

He's always been a fairly good night sleeper (albeit an early waker) so at a total loss as to what to do.  HELP someone please????!!!!!  I'm exhausted & can't take another night like last night  :(

If this has started out of the blue (not a gradual things getting worse over the course of days/weeks), I'd take him to the doctor to check for an ear infection.

Such frequent NWings are usually pain or prop related and if it were prop related I don't think it would start in such dramatic fashion.  {{Hugs}}

I second what Bethany said.  Sounds like pain to me.  Sorry for the rough night..

Thanks ladies, we did feel like he might be poorly but just couldnt figure out what the problem was.

Last night was utterly AWFUL.  He just wouldnt settle with the dummy, kept spitting it out in favour of his toy bunny & then over the monitor his breathing sounded strange & lots of coughing - went up & both him & bunny were covered in sick.  He loves to suck & chew on its arms - I think he must have put it in too far & it made him gag.  Anyhow I cleaned him up but then he started to scream & scream & nothing at all would settle him, we tried replugging, settling him in bed, picking him up, took him downstairs for a bit, tried him in our bed with us, nothing worked.

In the end we decided to feed him in case all the crying had made him hungry & he drank almost a full bottle & still wouldnt settle.  He eventually went off around 11.30, but cried out every half hour or so ALL NIGHT LONG.  I am exhausted  :'(

This morning he has sticky eyes & a stuffy nose so think it must be the combined effects of teething, overtiredness and feeling off colour with a cold.  I've been to the doctors but they've just told me to carry on with the calpol & wont give anything for the eyes unless they're still bad in 3 days time.

Despite the lack of sleep last night he has only had a 30min nap so far today too so the OT goes on  :(  I wouldn't wish this on anyone its awful seeing your baby so unsettled  :'(
