Just a question about W2S
« on: February 12, 2011, 20:13:24 pm »
For those of you who have used the W2S technique at what time did you re-enter your LO's room and stir them?

My LO seems to still stir, I have been trying to do it at about the 30min mark and he still asked up at about 40-42min mark. This morning I managed to just re-plug him and he resettled really quickly. I've just gone in again this time 25 mins after he started his next sleep cycle and am going to see what happens. But suggestions would be very welcome :). Do I stir earlier or later?

When we did it, I went in really, really early (she usually woke around 35ish min - so I went in at 20) and just watched for a couple times  - to see what happened and when it happened as she woke up.  Then once I saw a pattern, I went in at a better time (around 30 min) and then as she started to wake up, I'd put my hands on her ("holding" her in the cot), as she kept waking, I'd start shhhhhing, then patting.  I had success about 50% of the time (where I could get her to go back to sleep), the rest of the time, she woke.  But....after a couple of weeks, that was enough :)  I never could get the amount of "waking" right - I always did too much or not enough, so doing what I described worked better for us.

Thanks deck chariot. I had success with the first nap this morning, I got 2hrs with going in at 2 different stages. But the one this afternoon was a failure, he slept for 42mins exactly (same as this morning, but I managed to shh him back to sleep quickly). I couldn't resettle him so I have got Jim up and see if he will go back down in about 15 mins.

celebrate the one success :) :)  Like I said, we failed a lot, but the success we did have seemed to be enough to make it "click" for her.  Hang in there!!
