We're new to BW and so grateful already for this community of supporters. We really do want what's best for our lo and are hopeful for better sleep for all before too long. We are now having significant NWings after about a week of working on his OT issues (working on naps and lengthening them during the day) and trying to solidify our lo's routine. He's has had some form of routine since birth, but more like an ESA than EASY.
Now onto the information you ask for:
How old is your child? 4.25 months
What’s his/her daily routine?
Yesterday's EASY was approx:
E 7 am for about 10 mins, EBF
A 7-8:15--still slowly working on OT issues, as I know this is rather short A time for his age.
S 8:15 (after showing signs of being tired)-9:20 (We are still trying to lengthen naps, but has hard time getting through 45 min. So I continue trying to shh pat him back to sleep until his E time. For this EASY however, I had to take DS1 to doctor so I simply got him up after he woke the first time))
E 9:20
A 9:20-11:10 (fell asleep at pharmacy and transferred in car seat to bedroom)
S 11:10-12:25
E 12:30, for 7 mins
A 12:30-2:10
S 2:15 -3:00, tried until 3:15 to get back down
E 3:15, for 25 mins
A 3:15-4:55
S 4:55-5:35 for CN
E attempted CF at 5:45, not interetsed, only 3 mins
E CF at 7:15, for 10 mins
A ununtil 7:30
S 7:45
Getting him down for BT has taken about two hours for the last five nights. He wakes back up every 35-45 mins or so, finally settling about two hours later
Last night, I did another feed at 8:35 for which he nursed 20 mins.
Nighttime sleep is pretty disastrous. Woke at 11:30 for first NT feed, 25 mins. Then awake at 1, 1:30, 2:15, 4:20 for second NT feed for 35 mins and finally slept until 8:05 this morning when I woke him up...yikers...this is what our last five nights have been like...getting progressively worse.
Back oto your questions...
What’s nap routine?
change diaper, close curtains, turn on rain on roof recording, swaddlef rom arms down--hates anything more than that, put on side and shhpat to sleep--takes anywhere from 5-20 mins usually
How long are naps?
he stirs at 40 mins in and sometime sI cna help him beyoiond it into the next cycle but not always
What's bedtime routine? Time?
see above, routine is about same except that we try not to do anyhting too loud or active after 6. Still trying figure out what best BT is, but we'd like to do aorund 7:15?
Do you bottle or breastfed??
EBF, won't take bottle, we've tried many ways and my breastmilk has extra lipase in it, mkaing it quite the process to succcessfully freeze. The few times he actually took a bottle, I pumped fresh on the spot...
How much? or how long?
I have a fast let down, which was quite an issue initally. But after gettgint hat well settled, he now takes about 5 mins. I always offer both sides, but generally he just takes one before turning away and seeming to get upset
If breastfed.. one side or both?? (at each feed)
How many wakes per night?
Since a week ago, the number has increased from 3-now 6 or more
What’s your LO like when waking at night? How long is he/she up?
usually crying, up for anywhere from 15 misn to an hour
When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Or is it a mantra cry?
sometimes has a mantra cry, and we try not to interfere, but most of the time, he's crying adn it escalates fairly quickly
What have you tried to settle??
shhpat
What do you do for A time and how long is it?
see above for times, usually includes floor play, face play, watching brother, songs, sometimes a book
Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones?
very possibly teething as he is really drooly again
Have you introduced cereal? Why, how much, and how many times a day? (for LO’s under 6 months)
no and we would prefer not to
Do they have a prop? If so what is it?
we started out wiht quite a lot fo POP--ala attachment parenting model...rocking, walking, holding in carrier or wrap for sleep, safe co-sleeping (currently he has been in his co-sleeper, noto longer attached to our bed, for about 2 weeks--haven't yet transferred into crib in brother's room--they will-share a room--as we have been avdised on antoehr forum that we await a bit until things settle a bit.)
also, not sure if we are doing shhh pat corretcly as that seems to be beomcing a prop of sorts
Do they have a lovie?
no, we've tried paci's but to no avail like the bottle
Hopefully that's enough information to get you started on soem thoughts and feedback...thanks so much...we do so appreciate knowing that we are not alone,, nor the only ones struggling to be great paretns while being pretty bleary eyed at t he same time.
